Here is a look at the Spanish newspaper player ratings for Serbia vs Spain in the Nations League last night. The game- Spain’s first since their Euro 2024 triumph, ended in a 0-0 draw. Marca almost got their predicted Spanish lineup right- the only thing they missed was Ayoze Perez starting instead of Oyarzabal.

A single star for Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, who had a rare start for the national side in the absence of Unai Simon. His opposite number Rajkovic got 3 stars from Marca- the highest player rating on the Serbian side.

Chelsea left back Marc Cucurella got a single start too. Spain’s highest rated player was Lamine Yamal (3 stars), with the likes of Zubimendi, Laporte and Le Normand following closely behind with 2 stars.

The ratings were similar in Diario AS, with Raya and Cucurella getting one star and Lamine getting 3. AS however thought Zubimendi only deserved a single star (as opposed to Marca’s 2), and that Jovic didn’t deserve a rating at all.

Marca AS Newspaper Predicted Spain lineup vs Serbia 2024- Raya, Cucurella, Zubimendi to start

Euro 2024 champions Spain return to action in the Nations League later tonight away at Serbia and here is how the big Spanish newspapers have predicted La Furia Roja to lineup.

With Unai Simon’s injury, all the papers are of the opinion that Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya will start ahead of Alex Remiro and Robert Sanchez. Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella will be on the left side of defence, with Aymeric Laporte and Robin le Normand in the centre.

Martin Zubimendi, who was widely linked with Liverpool in the summer transfer window, is expected to start in midfield.

Saliba, Cucurella, Walker in Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament (all Premier League based back four)

The official Euro 2024 team of the tournament has been announced by governing body UEFA, and not surprisingly, is dominated by champions Spain, with six of the eleven players coming from La Furia Roja.

Spain went 7/7 to win the tournament and dominate the attacking part of this TOTM- the midfield troika (Fabian Ruiz, Dani Olmo, Rodri) is all Spanish, as are two of the top three upfront (Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal). Olmo was not originally in the Spanish starting XI, but came into it after Pedri suffered a tournament ending injury following a Kroos tackle in their last eight clash against Germany.

Interestingly, the back four of this TOTM all play in the Premier League- left back Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), centre backs William Saliba (Arsenal) & Manuel Akanji (Man City) and right back Kyle Walker (also MCFC).

Akanji and Musiala are the only two non-semifinalists in this TOTM. There is however no Dutch player in this XI.
