Dejan Stankovic’s brilliant opening goal for Inter Milan goes in vain as Schalke 04 stage a great triumph under new coach Ralf Rangnick to win 5-2 against the defending champions at the San Siro.
This stunning Dejan Stankovic goal vs Schalke gave Inter the lead in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Schalke 04. Unfortunately, the Stankovic goal, the first in the Inter vs Schalke fixture, came in a losing cause as Schalke crushed Inter Milan 5-2 to move into the drivers’ seat.
The Stankovic goal v Schalke was easily one of the contenders for goal of the tournament. It was a fabulous volley goal from Stankovic, with the Serbian midfielder scoring from near the halfway line ( around 40 yards out) after Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer had left his goal unguarded by coming out to head away a through ball. This Georgios Tzavellas goal vs Schalke was an incredible 73m long range goal from the Eintracht Frankfurt left back. Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer completely misread Tzavellas’s long range pass, and it ended up in Tzavellas scoring a goal from inside his own half. Not a goal Neuer would be proud of conceding though, with the likes of Manchester United reportedly pondering over him as a transfer target.
Unfortunately for Frankfurt, this incredible Georgios Tzavellas goal against Schalke was not enough to prevent defeat to the Royal Blues, with Schalke winning 2-1.
