Just hours after unveiling their new crest, Leeds United have announced that they will have a rethink over the new design. The new “salute badge” featuring “Leeds United” in full, instead of the LUFC on the old crest, was widely mocked on social media. A petition for the club to can the idea garnered thousands of signatures and the likes of Aston Villa, Zenit and Zamalak all mocked Leeds on Twitter. Celebrity fans like Jonny Bairstow also tweeted their displeasure at the change.
The badge was apparently chosen after six months of research but Leeds have now said they will have a rethink over the design in consultation with fans. The new crest was supposed to be worn from the beginning of the 2018/19 season to celebrate the club’s centenary year
