Here are the player and referee ratings from several of Europe’s big newspapers (L’Equipe, Sport, Gazzetta) following Juventus’ exit from the Champions League. Juve dominated the game, and won 2-1 thanks to Ronaldo’s brace, but were eliminated on the away goals rule. Criticism for several Juve players, including Gonzalo Higuain and Juan Cuadrado while referee Felix Zwayer was also rated poorly.

L’Equipe gave Felix Zwayer a referee rating of 2/10! They also gave Maurizio Sarri a poor manager rating as compared to his Lyon counterpart Garcia.

Controversial Memphis Depay Panenka penalty vs Juventus 2020 | Bentancur Aouar Tackle? Bernardeschi Foul

This Lyon penalty vs Juventus was a very controversial one from the second leg of their CL knock out tie, with Rodrigo Bentancur seemingly penalised for a foul on OL’s Aouar. Replays however clearly showed that Bentancur got the ball, with clarification later coming in that it was for a foul by Bernardeschi (Jersey 33) and not Bentancur. Memphis Depay stepped up and to add insult to injury for Juve, scored a cheeky panenka penalty, and it was this goal that knocked Juve out on the away goals rule.
