Villarreal beat Twente 3-1 in Enschede to win 8-3 on aggregate in the quarterfinals of the Europa League. Tiendalli was red carded for Twente- a vital turning point after the hosts had taken the lead through Bajrami.

SL Benfica set up a semifinal meeting with fellow Portuguese side Braga after drawing 2-2 with PSV Eindhoven away from home. PSV were 2-0 but Benfica picked up two further goals to draw the tie at 2-2 and win it 6-3 on aggregate.

Porto beat Spartak Moscow 5-2 in Moscow to pick up a 10-3 win on aggregate in this Europa League quarterfinal tie. The Portuguese outfit had beaten Spartak 5-1 in the first leg. Five different scorers for Porto vs Spartak.
