Cristiano Ronaldo Named Best Men’s Player for 2016- Lloyd is Best Female Player

At the first Best Fifa Football awards in Zurich (following the parting of ways by FIFA and France Football who award the Ballon D’Or), Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the Best Men’s Player for 2016. Ronaldo, who won the Champions League in 2016 with Real Madrid and the European Championships with Portugal, beat Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann to the award.

Carli Lloyd was named the Best Female Player for 2016 (beating Melanie Behringer and Marta), while Leicester’s Claudio Ranieri was named the best Coach (beating Zinedine Zidane and Fernando Santos)

Faiz Subri’s goal was named the Best Goal for 2016 (ahead of Daniuska Rodriguez and Marlone)

Silva Neid, who lead Germany’s womens’ team to a Gold in Rio, was named best women’s coach

The fan award went to Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund for their rendition of YNWA ahead of their EL clash at Anfield.

With Harry Kane netting a double in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Watford, it took the England striker to 59 goals from 100 league appearances- equal with former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and just below the likes of Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez.

It is Alan Shearer with 79 goals in 100, although his stats might have been slightly influenced by him playing in the old top flight (the modern Premiership as we know it started only in 1992).
