Reports in the press today have suggested that Anzhi playmaker Willian has arrived in London to undergo a medical at White Hart Lane. Liverpool were earlier favourites to sign the £30m Brazilian, but it looks like Spurs have beaten them to the deal, with Sky Bet also suspending betting on the player’s next destination.
Spurs are also in advanced talks to sign Erik Lamela from Roma, with the Giallorossi willing to sell him for somewhere in the region of €30m.
The Gareth Bale to Real Madrid talks have also gained traction, with reports from Italy and Spain suggesting that Real have now agreed to pay the Lilywhites £93m + Portuguese left back Fabio Coentrao.
If Willian, Lamela and Coentrao do sign for Spurs, then most neutrals would regard it as a reasonably successful transfer window for AVB’s men even with the departure of Bale. In sharp contrast to local rivals Arsenal, Spurs have spent heavily in the market so far, acquiring the quartet of Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Emmanuel Capoue and Roberto Soldado for close to £60m.
