The referee for Chelsea’s Week 12 game against Leicester City has been announced as Andy Madley. Blues fans have reason to feel encouraged by his appointment- CFC are unbeaten in the last four games that he’s been in charge, and one of those fixtures, interestingly, was a FA Cup clash between these very two teams (Chelsea v Leicester) last season that CFC won 4-2.
Chelsea last four games under Andy Madley as referee (going into Leicester game in 24/25)

Man City 1-1 Chelsea (February 2024)

Here is a look at the player ratings for Italy vs France from the big French and Italian newspapers following Les Bleus’ 3-1 away win in their Nations League clash.
L’Equipe player ratings Italy vs France football November 2024
French newspaper L’Equipe tend to be notoriously harsh with their player ratings, and it’s reflected in their notes for this clash.
Despite winning 3-1, France have an average team rating of 5.9/10. The French forwards have pretty poor ratings- Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku gets a 4/10- the same as Marcus Thuram, but better than Kolo-Muani (3/10)
At the back, Arsenal’s William Saliba gets a 6/10. His defensive partner was Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, who was also France’s designated captain for this clash against the Azzurri. Konate got a 7/10. The pick of the backs was Everton’s Lucas Digne, who got a 9/10 from L’Equipe, while Barca’s Jules Kounde was the lowest rated (4/10)

Man United and Newcastle dominate Deeney’s Team of the Week with three representatives each. MUFC have Onana, Mazraoui and Bruno while NUFC have Burn, Joelinton and Isak. Wolves have two players (Dawson and Cunha) while there is one each from Brighton, Brentford and Liverpool to complete his XI.
There is no Arsenal, Chelsea or Man City player in Deeney’s TOTW.
Here is the Premier League table for 2024/25 as it stands after Week 11, going into the November 2024 international break.
Nottingham Forest’s loss to Newcastle has seen NFFC slip out of the top 4. Both Chelsea and Arsenal are present in the top 4 after their 1-1 draw over the weekend, but only one point separates 3rd place Chelsea from 9th place Aston Villa- that’s how tight things are in the log table Round 11.

The big game this weekend is without a question the London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge- a game that pits two teams on the same number of points (18 from 10 games).
Here is how the big pundits think the game will go.
Chris Sutton
Sutton at the BBC thinks this match hinges on whether or not Cole Palmer is fit enough to take the field for Chelsea.
He reckons Palmer makes such a difference to the team that he’s predicted a 2-1 Chelsea win if the forward plays, and a 1-1 draw if he doesn’t.
Here is a look at the UCL League Phase table for 24/25 after Round 4. Liverpool are now the only team with a 100% record- the Reds beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 at Anfield.
The top 4 teams after Match Day 4 has some interesting names after Liverpool in the form of Sporting Lisbon, AS Monaco and Brest. Sporting beat Manchester City 4-1 in a massive upset in Lisbon. Inter are the highest ranked Serie A team (5th) after beating Arsenal while Barca are sixth (they beat Red Star 5-2).
Aston Villa’s loss in Belgium to Brugge has seen them drop to 8th.
UCL League Phase table after MD4
(see UCL table after MD3 2024-25 for comparison)
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are perhaps the most shocking ones if you look at the table. If the league phase were to end today, both these two European giants wouldn’t qualify automatically- they’d have to go through a playoff and they’d be unseeded in it. The likes of Man City, Arsenal and Celtic would potentially be seeded as it stood today.
Arsenal will be looking to end a three-game winless run in the Premier League when they meet London rivals Chelsea in Week 11’s final game on Sunday evening. Mikel Arteta’s title-hopefuls have had some ordinary results since the last international break- losing away to both Bournemouth and Newcastle and drawing at home to Liverpool.
The twin setbacks at the Vitality Stadium and St.James Park have seen the Gunners drop out of the top four. Defeat here could potentially mean them being ten points off the top of the table going into the November break. Liverpool play before the Gunners and should the Reds win against Aston Villa as expected, this fixture against Chelsea then enters a “cannot lose” zone for the Gunners.

Interestingly, Taylor is yet to referee a game involving Arsenal in the current 2024/25 season, but has already had the whistle for two league games involving Arne Slot’s Liverpool- their 3-0 win over Manchester United in Week 3, and the 2-1 triumph at Wolves in Week 6.

They thought the Belgian starting XI (5.2/10) did better than Les Bleus’ starters (4.9/10 team rating)
Le Figaro used the adjective “catastrophique” for Saliba’s performance in their headline, and gave him a 3/10 too. However while L’Equipe thought Konate only fared marginally better (4/10), Le Figaro gave the Liverpool defender a 6/10 for his efforts.

Troy Deeney Team of the Week GW6 2024-2025 season

James Justin (Leicester), Micky van de Ven (Spurs), Joachim Andersen (Fulham), Joskvo Gvardiol (Manchester City)
Lewis Cook (Bournemouth), Sandro Tonali (Newcastle)
Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Dwight McNeil (Everton)
Liam Delap (Ipswich)
Deeney’s TOTW has two representatives each from Leicester and Bournemouth. The Foxes have representation in the form of goalkeeper Mads Hermansen and double goal scorer James Justin despite losing 4-2 to Arsenal.
Micky van de Ven’s superb assist for Brennan Johnson’s opener at Old Trafford makes him the only Spurs player to earn a spot in this week’s TOTW from Deeney.
Arsenal scored twice in second half stoppage time to pick up a 4-2 win over Leicester City at the Emirates over the weekend. This was a crucial win for the Gunners given that Man City had dropped points away at Newcastle earlier in the day, and it allowed them to draw level with MCFC in the league table.
Here are our main talking points from the game.
Arsenal dominant going forward
The first half was all Arsenal- they had 12 shots to Leicester’s solitary one and had more than 75% of possession before the interval. And they were rewarded for that dominance, with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard giving them a deserved 2-0 lead at half time.
James Justin’s brace brought Leicester back into the game (his second goal was an absolute peach), but no neutral would’ve begrudged Arsenal a win. The Gunners were as dominant in the second half as they were in the first, and finished with a whopping 35 shots (LCFC added 4 more in the second half to finish with 5)
Mikel Arteta’s side had 16 shots on target here against Leicester- the first time in 7 years that a Premier League side has managed more than 15 on target in a game!
A solid response after all the parking the bus talk last weekend against Man City!
Mads Hermansen saves vs Arsenal
The reason Leicester stayed so long in the game was due to the brilliance of their goalkeeper Mads Hermansen. The Danish stopper virtually decided to turn into prime Manuel Neuer in the second half, and produced save after save, denying the likes of Trossard, Gabriel, Havertz and Calafiori goals.
Hermansen was eventually beaten in the 94th minute and even that was down to a generous dose of luck for the home side- Trossard’s shot took a deflection off Ndidi.(it was declared an Ndidi own goal)

Here is a look at the Europa League table as it stood after Match Day 1 (the first round of games) in the newly revamped UEL competition. The two English representatives in the tournament- Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, had differing starts. United were held to a 1-1 by manager Erik ten Hag’s old team FC Twente while Spurs beat Qarabag 3-0.
The two results, plus the way of how the rankings are determined after the first round, means that United are a lowly 20th while Spurs are fourth. If the group stages were technically stopped today, Spurs will automatically progress to the knockout stages while United will have to go through a playoff round where they will be unseeded.
Interestingly, the two teams will do battle in the Premier League this weekend (GW6) with Ange Postecoglu’s men travelling to Old Trafford to take on the Red Devils. Spurs beat Brentford 3-1 at home last week, while United were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace.

In the first half, City had 5 shots to Arsenal’s 4, so you can really see how Trossard’s sending off affected Arsenal’s tactics.
Arsenal’s only second half shot came through Havertz (90+7′). Interestingly neither Havertz nor defender Jurrien Timber (playing at RB) completed a single successful pass in the game despite playing the 90- it’s a record since stats for the same started to be kept by the league.

Referee Anthony Taylor sets Premier League record for most yellow cards in a match
In terms of quality of football, this game wasn’t the greatest, but it will go down in the history books as the fixture with the most YC’s in Premier League history. Anthony Taylor issued a total of 14 yellow cards (six to Bournemouth, eight to Chelsea).
The bookings started in the 18th minute, with the first yellow card in this Bournemouth v Chelsea game going to Ryan Christie, and the last one to Semenyo in second-half stoppage time.
Players booked for Bournemouth: Smith, Senesi, Christie, Cook, Tavernier, Semenyo

Sancho stars on Chelsea league debut
There were plenty of Chelsea fans with reservations when the Blues announced Jadon Sancho’s signing towards the end of the transfer window- another winger in a squad that has plenty of options in that position. The former Dortmund star made his CFC debut here as a half-time substitute for Pedro Neto and was a constant threat down the left flank after the interval.
He gave both Adam Smith and Julian Araujo a real working over, and most importantly, assisted Nkunku for the match winner.

Spurs’ best chance fell to Solanke in the first half, but he dithered and the chance was gone (low xG) by the time he took a shot.

64% of possession for Spurs in this game.

Chelsea’s first game after the international break sees them travel to the South Coast to take on Bournemouth this weekend- a late kickoff on Saturday night at the Vitality Stadium. CFC will be wearing their 24/25 away kit against AFCB- the “guava ice” shirt from Nike.
Here is what the pundits have predicted for this clash, which will be refereed by Anthony Taylor, who was also in charge of Chelsea’s opening round defeat to Manchester City last month.
Paul Merson
Merson has called this the “hardest game” to predict this weekend. Says Chelsea “lack consistency” and they could win “3-0, 4-0” but “they could also lose”.
Has gone for a 1-1 draw.
The North London derby takes place this weekend, with Jarred Gillett set to referee Spurs v Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Here is a look at the pundit predictions for this GW4 league fixture.
Paul Merson
Merson says he’s “worried for Arsenal” and adds that Rice (suspended) and Odegaard (injured) will be big misses for the Gunners. Has gone for a 1-1 draw, but “more in hope” because he says Spurs could’ve been higher up the table if not for some “naive” play at the back.
The referee for this weekend’s marquee North London derby has been announced as Australia’s Jarred Gillett. The 37-year-old was in charge of the Chelsea v Crystal Palace game (GW3) before the international break (it ended in a 1-1 draw), and somewhat interestingly, has already refereed the Gunners this season- he was the man with the whistle for their season opener against Wolves (2-0 win for AFC). He was also the referee for the Community Shield curtain raiser between Man Utd and City (which was won on penalties by MCFC)
Spurs record under Jarred Gillett going into 2024/25 NLD v Arsenal

Finland had just two shots in the entire game (Pukki in the 12th minute and Keskinen in the 26th), and neither of the two were on target.

Here is a look at the player ratings for Netherlands vs Germany in the Nations League on 10 September 2024 from well known German newspaper Bild and Abendzeitung Munchen. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
With Nicklas Fullkrug unavailable through injury, Germany started Undav. The Dutch had a strong Premier League core (Verbruggen, de Ligt, van Dijk, Ake, Gravenberch, Gakpo) although another potential starter (Zirkzee) didn’t feature as Koeman opted to give Ajax’s Brobbey a start upfront.
Bild player ratings Netherlands vs Germany football September 2024
Note- German rating system (6 very bad, 1 very good)
Bild thought Man Utd defender De Ligt was the worst player on the Holland side, giving him a 5 player rating. The Liverpool trio of Gravenberch, Van Dijk and Gakpo (all played the full 90) were given a 3 while Ake got a 4.
Havertz was also given a 4, with the best German player ratings reserved for Undav, Wirtz and Kimmich.
Germany take on the Netherlands in what promises to be a blockbuster Nations League clash later this evening, and here are the predicted lineups for NED v GER from well known German sports newspaper Bild.
Both teams scored five goals in their previous UNL fixtures- Germany put five past Hungary with Wirtz and Musiala influential while the Dutch beat Bosnia 5-2.
Bild predicted lineup for Holland vs Germany September 2024
The Dutch are expected to lineup with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Manchester United’s Matthijs de Ligt in the centre of defence. De Ligt’s United team mate- Joshua Zirzkee, is however not expected to feature in this game, with Ajax’s Brian Brobbey likely to start upfront. Zirzkee started against Bosnia, but Koeman has indicated in the Dutch media that he wants to see what Brobbey can do against Germany.
Here is a look at the French and Italian newspaper ratings for France v Italy in the Nations League on 6 September, 2024. France took the lead in this game in the 1st minute, but Italy ended up winning 3-1.

Arsenal defender William Saliba got a 3/10 for his performance here, as did his defensive partner- Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate. The worst rating was reserved for Theo Hernandez (2/10) while the best was reserved for left winger Bradley Barcola.
Former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante got a 3/10 while Michael Olise, on his Les Bleus senior debut, got a 4/10 player rating from L’Equipe.

Here is a look at the Spanish newspaper player ratings for Serbia vs Spain in the Nations League last night. The game- Spain’s first since their Euro 2024 triumph, ended in a 0-0 draw. Marca almost got their predicted Spanish lineup right- the only thing they missed was Ayoze Perez starting instead of Oyarzabal.
Marca player ratings Serbia vs Spain UNL 2024
A single star for Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, who had a rare start for the national side in the absence of Unai Simon. His opposite number Rajkovic got 3 stars from Marca- the highest player rating on the Serbian side.
Chelsea left back Marc Cucurella got a single start too. Spain’s highest rated player was Lamine Yamal (3 stars), with the likes of Zubimendi, Laporte and Le Normand following closely behind with 2 stars.
Diario AS player ratings SRB 0-0 ESP
The ratings were similar in Diario AS, with Raya and Cucurella getting one star and Lamine getting 3. AS however thought Zubimendi only deserved a single star (as opposed to Marca’s 2), and that Jovic didn’t deserve a rating at all.
Euro 2024 champions Spain return to action in the Nations League later tonight away at Serbia and here is how the big Spanish newspapers have predicted La Furia Roja to lineup.
With Unai Simon’s injury, all the papers are of the opinion that Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya will start ahead of Alex Remiro and Robert Sanchez. Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella will be on the left side of defence, with Aymeric Laporte and Robin le Normand in the centre.
Martin Zubimendi, who was widely linked with Liverpool in the summer transfer window, is expected to start in midfield.
The big game of the weekend in the Premier League was the one at Old Trafford between great rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. It turned out to be a rather tame one-sided affair, with Liverpool coasting to victory and scoring 3 unanswered goals in the process. Here are our talking points from the fixture.
Casemiro has a stinker; Colyer-Mainoo in the centre of the park in the second half
Casemiro had an absolute shocker of a first half for United, and two of his mistakes directly led to first-half goals for Liverpool. The Brazilian midfielder was one of the best in the world at Real Madrid, but has looked like a pale shadow of his former self at Old Trafford, and his performance on Sunday was so bad that manager Erik Ten Hag was forced to sub him off at half-time, and bring 20-year-old Toby Collyer (on Premier League debut) in midfield alongside teenager Kobbie Mainoo.
Liverpool and Man City are the only two teams with a 100% record in the 24/25 season after Week 3, and the Reds are also the only team not to have conceded a goal so far.
Arne Slot’s side kept yet another clean sheet in an impressive 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, and it’s no surprise that they dominate several pundits’ TOTW for MW3.
BBC Deeney Team of the Week (Round 3 for 2024/25)
Deeney’s TOTW: Alisson, Robertson, Van Dijk, Collins, Bogarde, Onana, Bellegarde, Diaz, Eze, Salah, Haaland
Almost half of the BBC TOTW for Round 3 come from Liverpool, with Deeney’s XI having 5 LFC players- goalkeeper Alisson, defenders Van Dijk and Robertson and forwards Luis Diaz and Mo Salah.
Arsenal’s 100% record in the league came to an end over the weekend as they drew 1-1 with Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates. Most pundits pre-match expected the Gunners to beat BHAFC, and on the evidence of the first half, it did look like a victory for the Gunners before a controversial red card to Declan Rice changed the game.
Here are our talking points from the game.
First ever Havertz Premier League goal from outside the box
Kai Havertz scored Arsenal’s only goal of the afternoon and it was a very well-taken one too from the German, chipping the keeper from outside the box following a mistake from Albion defender Lewis Dunk.
Interestingly, this was Havertz’s 34th PL goal (Arsenal + Chelsea combined), but his first league goal scored from outside the box (see the shots map of his goals so far below)
Here is a look at the Premier League table after Round 3- the EPL log as it stood before the September 2024 international break.
There were four teams with a 100% record at the end of Week 2; that’s now reduced to two teams (Man City and Liverpool) following Arsenal and Brighton’s 1-1 draw.

Not much for United in terms of chances on xG apart from one Zirkzee header (63rd minute) from close range that was saved by Alisson. The chance accounted for most of United’s xG- the rest of the ones weren’t really high percentage opportunities.
United had only two shots in the first half (both to Mazraoui), and their first shot came after half an hour.
Liverpool also had a first half Trent Alexander Arnold goal disallowed for Salah being offside.
The Champions League returns this year with a radically different format, one that sees each team play EIGHT group games. The 8 will be split into four home games and four away ones, but you don’t play the same team home and away- instead there are 8 different group opponents.
The group stage in 24/25 has 36 teams this year (up from 32 in previous years), and the table will be one big, combined log. Teams that finish 1-8 will directly progress to the knockout stages, while 9-24 will face each other in a playoff. 25-36 will be eliminated from Europe altogether (no EL for them)
Premier League opponents in UCL this year (2024/2025)

Liverpool appear to have the toughest draw on paper, although City have some tricky fixtures away from home. Arsenal have a very winnable fixture list.

UEFA have officially announced Marco di Bello as the referee for the Servette v Chelsea Conference League Playoff (2nd Leg) clash on Thursday. The 43-year-old Di Bello will have fellow Italians Alessandro Giallatini and Giovanni Baccini as his assistant refs, with Luca Zufferli as the fourth referee and Gianluca Aureliano on VAR duty. Chelsea lead 2-0 from the first leg.
While Di Bello has never previously refereed a Chelsea or Servette game as the main ref, he was on VAR duty when Servette drew 0-0 with Ludogorets in the UECL last season (February 2024)
The last UEFA game Di Bello refereed before this Chelsea clash with a 4-3 away win for Malmo at PAOK in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League earlier this month.

Here is a look at the Premier League Table for the current 2024/25 season after Week 2, and comparing it to the standings as of Week 1.
Chelsea, as you can see, are the biggest movers up the table- they were 17th in the standings at the end of GW1 and are now in 8th spot after GW2 courtesy of their 6-2 win away at Wolves.
French newspaper L’Equipe had an interesting headline today (August 27, 2024) covering Mason Greenwood and his start at Olympique Marseille. The former Manchester United youngster joined OM earlier this summer for a 30 million euro fee and has already scored 3 goals for his new club, prompting L’Equipe to run an article on him.
The French paper’s cover page had the headline “OM- Greenwood, L’Amour Sans Condition” (Marseille & Greenwood, Unconditional Love”). The article inside had the subheadline “OM, Sweet Home” (a play on Home, Sweet Home using OM)
Noni Madueke scored a stunning fourteen-minute hat trick that saw Chelsea hammer Wolves 6-2 at Molineux on Sunday afteroon. Most pundits felt pre-game that it was a draw or even a Wolves win, and the game was competitive till the interval (2-2) before the home side fell apart early in the second half.
Here are our talking points from the clash.
Cole Palmer in a central role does a Fabregas
There have been many folks asking for Cole Palmer to play in a more central role, and the forward showed what he was capable of in that position, racking up a hat-trick of assists for Noni Madueke in a 14 minute period in the second half.
Palmer became the first Chelsea player to achieve a PL assist hat-trick since Cesc Fabregas did so over 8 years ago (in April 2016 v Bournemouth to be precise).
He also scored a wonderful individual goal, although some pundits felt it should’ve been disallowed because the ball wasn’t stationary.
Madueke stars on the wing for the Blues
Noni Madueke was a constant threat down the right wing for Chelsea- the first shot of the game came from him in the 2nd minute (and the Blues scored from the resulting corner seconds later).
Palmer and Madueke combined very well and made life tough for Rayan Ait-Nouri, who was playing left back for Wolves. All three of Madueke’s goals came in the same area of the pitch.
In the process, Madueke became the 6th youngest Chelsea player to score an EPL hat trick (22y 168d), and it’s only the 5th time that a Premier League hat trick has had the same player assisting all the goals.
At the end of Game Week 2, four teams remain unbeaten in the new 24/25 Premier League season- defending champions Man City, Brighton, Arsenal and Liverpool. Of these four, Arsenal and Liverpool are yet to concede a goal. The Gunners and LFC both won by identical 2-0 margins over the weekend, but the nature of those victories- they didn’t really dominate or stand out, meant that the two teams didn’t have any representative in the official BBC and PL TOTW.

Arsenal maintained their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday evening. The result was a crucial one for the Gunners, given that AVFC had beaten AFC both home and away in the PL in 2023-24.
Here are our talking points from the game
Two BIG Ollie Watkins misses for Aston Villa
This could’ve been a completely different game for Villa had Ollie Watkins converted two glorious chances for them before Arsenal scored. For the first one, he shot wide after some excellent Villa pressing had forced Gabriel Magalhaes into a mistake. For the second, Watkins’ header was brilliantly saved by David Raya from point blank range.
Here is a look at the xG (expected goals) stats from Wolves v Chelsea (Official crowd attendance of 31,235 at Molineux) on August 25, 2024.

Both Wolves and Chelsea come into this GW2 clash on the back of identical 2-0 defeats in the opening round- Wolves went down to Arsenal while Chelsea were beaten by defending champions Manchester City. Another loss here at Molineux, and one of these teams could find themselves in the relegation zone after this weekend’s round of fixtures.
Here is what the pundits think about this clash
Paul Merson
Sky pundit Merson doesn’t think Chelsea have got their first XI figured out. Adds that he could predict Arsenal’s XI for next month’s match against Spurs today, but simply can’t do the same for CFC.
Merson isn’t also a fan of how new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has frozen out Raheem Sterling, saying that he’s better than many of the other wingers in their current squad.
Here is a look at the xG (expected goals) stats from Aston Villa vs Arsenal on August 24, 2024. The Gunners won this game 2-0, but it could’ve been a very different story had AVFC striker Ollie Watkins converted two very good chances for the home side before Arsenal’s goals.

The game of this weekend sees Aston Villa, coached by former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, host the Gunners in the Midlands. Both teams got their campaigns off to winning starts on the opening weekend- Arsenal beat Wolves 2-0 while Villa got the better of Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham.
Here are the pundit predictions for this GW2 clash.
Chris Sutton
On the BBC, Sutton noted that AVFC did the league double over Arsenal in 23/24– the only team to do so last season.
Sutton thinks the fixture “smells of a draw” but reckons the Gunners will win 2-1.
Here is a look at how different media pundits (Troy Deeney for the BBC, Alan Shearer for the official PL and Gabriel Agbonlahor for TS) had their Team of the Week after Round 1 of the 24/25 season.
Only two of the 10 games in Week 1 (Forest v Bournemouth and Leicester v Spurs) ended in draws.
The biggest margin of victory came from Brighton, who beat Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Aston Villa all got off to winning starts, as did defending champions Man City, who got the better of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea 2-0.
Chelsea and Manchester City will meet this evening in what is the most widely anticipated game of the opening weekend of the new 24/25 Premier League season.
The Blues have a new manager in Enzo Maresca and have heavily invested in the transfer market to strengthen their squad. Pep Guardiola’s side are the reigning champions, and the corresponding fixture between the two sides last season (a 4-4 draw) was one of the best games in the league in 23/24.
The official Euro 2024 team of the tournament has been announced by governing body UEFA, and not surprisingly, is dominated by champions Spain, with six of the eleven players coming from La Furia Roja.
Spain went 7/7 to win the tournament and dominate the attacking part of this TOTM- the midfield troika (Fabian Ruiz, Dani Olmo, Rodri) is all Spanish, as are two of the top three upfront (Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal). Olmo was not originally in the Spanish starting XI, but came into it after Pedri suffered a tournament ending injury following a Kroos tackle in their last eight clash against Germany.
Interestingly, the back four of this TOTM all play in the Premier League- left back Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), centre backs William Saliba (Arsenal) & Manuel Akanji (Man City) and right back Kyle Walker (also MCFC).
Akanji and Musiala are the only two non-semifinalists in this TOTM. There is however no Dutch player in this XI.

The French newspaper, who are notoriously tough to please, didn’t rate a single player on either side above 7. They were particularly harsh on England skipper Harry Kane, giving him a 3/10. Simons’ goal put the Netherlands 1-0 up in the 7th minute- a powerful effort that Three Lions goalkeeper Jordan Pickford got a hand to, but was simply unable to stop from going into the back of the net.

Several major media outlets appear to be in agreement that England will field 3 at the back in their quarterfinal clash against Switzerland later this evening in Dusseldorf.
England have traditionally played these Euros with four at the back, with Kieran Trippier, John Stones, Marc Guehi and Kyle Walker being Gareth Southgate’s first choice combination.
Guehi is suspended for this one, and Southgate apparently wants to try a 3 ATB combination for this clash to match the Swiss, with Ezri Konsa coming into central defence alongside Stones and Walker.
That means Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who started the tournament on the right wing, is likely to be employed as a left wing-back against the Swiss in a 3-4-2-1 formation.
With Man Utd youngster Kobbie Mainoo set to partner Declan Rice in the middle of the park, the big question arises as to who plays RWB. Certain media outlets have it as Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold (who originally started the tournament as a CM partnering Rice), but others think Trippier will get the nod over TAA.

With the rumours strongly linking Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, here is a look at the Italian gaffer’s record at the King Power Stadium in 2023/24.
Maresca was only in charge at LCFC for one season, but that campaign was enough to convince the powers that be at Stamford Bridge that he could be Mauricio Pochettino’s successor. Pochettino had a tough start at Chelsea, but improved towards the end of the season, but was still shown the door.
Maresca list of all games as Leicester manager in 23/24 season
Maresca started with a win over Northampton Town in a pre-season friendly, but his first competitive game as Leicester manager saw the Foxes beat Coventry City 2-1.
The referee for this weekend’s FA Cup final has been announced, and it’s Andy Madley, the same referee who had the whistle when Manchester United lost 7-0 to Liverpool in March last year. Madley was also the referee when Brighton thrashed United 4-0 at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Has Andy Madley refereed a Manchester Derby before?
Yes, Madley was in fact also in charge of the City v United league clash a couple of months ago (March 2024) at the Etihad, which the former comfortably won 3-1.
Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman joined the rare group of players to get a 10/10 rating from L’Equipe as his hat trick helped the Italian side beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final in Dublin.

Arsenal finished the 2023/24 season on a winning note as they beat Everton 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Unfortunately for the Gunners, it wasn’t quite enough to end their league title drought as Manchester City beat West Ham 3-1 at the Etihad. Here are our talking points from the clash.
The 2023/24 Premier League season has just concluded, and here’s a look at all the goalless draws (0-0 scoreline games) that we saw in this edition of the league.
Interestingly, there were only 11 draws in the 2023/24 PL season. Given that a single campaign has 380 games, that amounts to 2.89% ending in 0-0 scorelines.
Arsenal’s only 0-0 league draw was against Man City and Liverpool’s solitary 0-0 was against Manchester United.
The very first 0-0 of the season involved Chelsea, but they didn’t have any other 0-0 game in the league.
This Semedo red card v Liverpool (VIDEO BELOW) saw Wolves’ Nelson Semedo sent off for a challenge on Alexis MacAllister. The Semedo dismissal came in the 28th minute. Here is a look at the final Bundesliga table for the 2023/24 season, plus standings for home and away games, plus an extended long/wide league table.
Bayer Leverkusen went unbeaten through the season– they didn’t lose even a single game, and this will therefore be known as the Leverkusen Invincibles season of 2023/24.
Anthony Taylor has been officially announced as the referee for Chelsea’s final league game of the 23/24 season against Bournemouth. The Blues are sixth in the table, but could potentially even finish fifth if they beat Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur fail to get points against Sheffield United.
Chelsea are unbeaten in games where Taylor’s been referee in the current 23/24 season. In fact, Chelsea haven’t lost a single game in the last three and a half odd years under Taylor– their last defeat when he had the whistle came back in the 2020/21 season (January 2021, when they lost to Man City)
The referee for Brighton vs Manchester United has been officially announced as Craig Pawson. This is United’s final league game of the season- they’re currently 8th with 57 points while Brighton are 10th with 48 points.
Has Pawson refereed Brighton v Man Utd before?
Yes, he’s in fact been in charge of this fixture twice- in 2017/18, when Brighton won 1-0 and in the FA Cup semifinal in 2022/23, when Man Utd won 7-6 on penalties (game ended 0-0 after extra time)

The referee for Man City vs West Ham this weekend has been officially announced as John Brooks. City can seal the league title if they beat the Hammers at the Etihad- Pep Guardiola’s men are two points ahead of Arsenal going into the final day of the 2023/24 season.
Has Brooks refereed a City v West Ham game before?
Yes, Brooks was in charge of City vs West Ham in May 2023 (22/23 season). That game saw City win 3-0, with goals from Nathan Ake, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.
The Premier League has officially announced Michael Oliver as the referee for Arsenal’s final league game of the 2023/24 season. The Gunners trail Man City by two points going into the final day of the campaign and need to beat Everton & hope that City slip up in their own game against West Ham.
Interestingly, Everton are yet to lose a game with Oliver as the referee in 2023/24. The Toffees have won 13 league games all season, and 3 of those 13 have come under Oliver.

Mikel Arteta became the first Arsenal manager to win back-to-back away league games at Spurs in the modern Premier League era as his side beat Ange Postecoglou’s men 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Arteta opted to keep faith with the same XI that had thrashed Chelsea 5-0 in midweek while Spurs made three changes, with Destiny Udogie, Yves Bissouma and Brennan Johnson dropping out and Ben Davies, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Dejan Kulusevski coming into the starting XI.
Here are our talking points from the big NLD.
Ben White vs Vicario
White made a nuisance of himself at corner time, distracting Spurs goalkeeper Vicario and indirectly having a hand in both goals that the Gunners scored from set-pieces in this game. A little bit of the dark arts from the Arsenal right-back (he even attempted to intefere with Vicario’s gloves just before the first goal!), but one could also argue that Spurs’ players should’ve protected their goalkeeper better.
Possession and match stats in favour of home side
Spurs were clearly the dominant side in the first half, with 72% of possession and more than 3x the number of passes, but bizarrely trailed 3-0 at the interval, with Arsenal punishing the Lilywhites for every little mistake they made.
Liverpool were knocked out of the Europa League despite winning 1-0 in Bergamo on Thursday night, with Atalanta’s 3-0 victory last week in the first leg helping the Italian side progress 3-1 on aggregate. It was a disappointing round for English sides in Europe, with Arsenal, Man City and West Ham also knocked out of continental competition.
Here are our talking points from this Atalanta v Liverpool clash.
Six changes to starting XI
Jurgen Klopp made as many as six changes for this must-win clash, with the likes of Alisson, Mo Salah, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold all restored to the starting XI. This was more like the lineup that Reds fans thought he should’ve fielded in the first leg at Anfield.
First leg starting XI: Kelleher, Tsimikas, Van Dijk, Konate, Gomez, Jones, Endo, MacAllister, Gakpo, Nunez, Elliott
Second leg starting XI: Alisson, Robertson, Van Dijk, Konate, TAA, Jones, Szoboszlai, MacAllister, Gakpo, Diaz, Salah
