The referee for Chelsea’s weekend clash against Crystal Palace has been officially announced as Jarred Gillett. The 37-year-old Australian was in charge of Arsenal’s 2-0 opening day win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and was also the man in the middle for the Community Shield clash between Man Utd and Man City earlier this month- a fixture the Citizens won on penalties.
Blues fans will remember him as the ref for their epic league clash against Manchester United last season- a seven goal thriller that the hosts won after Cole Palmer scored in the 100th and 101st minutes.
Chelsea have a pretty decent record under Gillett as referee- they’ve lost only once in 7 games with him in charge.
CFC games with Jarred Gillett as referee
Chelsea 4-3 Man Utd (2023/24)
Brentford 2-2 Chelsea (2023/24)
Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle (Cup, CFC won 4-2 on pens; 2023/24)
Chelsea 0-1 Aston Villa (2023/24)
Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle (2022/23)
Brentford 0-0 Chelsea (2022/23)
Chelsea 5-1 Chesterfield (Cup, 2021/22)
Gillett has been in charge of only three Crystal Palace games so far in his career, with the Eagles winning two and losing one. Like Chelsea, Palace also scored four goals against Man Utd in their fixture.
CPFC with Gillett as referee (W2, L1)
Palace 4-0 Man Utd (2023/24)
Luton 2-1 Palace (2023/24)
Southampton 1-2 Palace (2021/22)
Chelsea come into this game on the back of a 6-2 win over Wolves with Noni Madueke becoming their 23rd different PL hat trick scorer in the process, while Palace surprisingly lost 2-0 to West Ham United last weekend.
Gillett will have Darren Cann & Steve Meredith as his assistant referees for this CFC v CPFC clash. Peter Bankes will be the fourth official while Michael Oliver has been named the VAR.
