Chelsea striker Cole Palmer scored a marvellous goal against Wolves to put his side 2-1 up in their GW2 clash, but experts were of the opinion that the goal should have been disallowed as the ball was still rolling when CFC keeper Robert Sanchez took the restart.
Sanchez’s long goal kick was diverted by Nicolas Jackson into the path of Palmer, who produced a stunning, instinctive chip finish after spotting Wolves keeper Jose Sa off his line!
VAR didn’t interfere in the goal, but the official line goes that the video assistant referee doesn’t adjudicate restarts, which is why the goal was allowed to stand. Wolves fans will not be pleased with the rule however, but the excellence of the finish probably makes the goal a tad more palatable for them!
Palmer’s stunning goal had a xG of just 0.03, indicating the superb nature of the strike.
Pundits were of the opinion pre-game that Chelsea would struggle to win the fixture, with most backing Wolves or going for a draw after the Blues’ disappointing 2-0 loss to Man City on the opening weekend.
