Here is a look at how different media pundits (Troy Deeney for the BBC, Alan Shearer for the official PL and Gabriel Agbonlahor for TS) had their Team of the Week after Round 1 of the 24/25 season.
Only two of the 10 games in Week 1 (Forest v Bournemouth and Leicester v Spurs) ended in draws.
The biggest margin of victory came from Brighton, who beat Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Aston Villa all got off to winning starts, as did defending champions Man City, who got the better of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea 2-0.
Troy Deeney BBC Team of the Week Round 1 2024-25 season
Troy Deeney’s taken over from Garth Crooks at the BBC and here is his Team of the Round.
Pope; Burn, Dias, Maguire, Alexander-Arnold; Kovacic, Onana; Mitoma, Saka, Salah; Havertz
Alan Shearer official PL TOTW MW1 2024-2025
Pope; Van Hecke, Dias, Alexander-Arnold; Kovacic, Onana, Joelinton, Lewis; Saka, Salah, Mitoma
Gabby Agbonlahor Team of the Week EPL Round 1 2024/25 season
Pope; Kerkez, Torres, Van Dijk, Lewis; Kovacic, Onana, Salah, Rogers, Saka; Haaland
All three pundits had Nick Pope as their goalkeeper of the week- the NUFC GK helped his team win 1-0 against Southampton despite being a man down for most of the game.
The other common players in the three teams were the duo of Mateo Kovacic and Andre Onana in midfield and Mo Salah and Bukayo Saka upfront.
Man City youngster Rico Lewis made the cut in Shearer and Agbonlahor’s TOTW, but not in Deeney’s.
Former Aston Villa forward Agbonlahor had some interesting names in his TS TOTW; especially in defence, where 3/4 of his picks didn’t appear in any other pundit’s Team of the Week.
