After breaking their four game winless streak over the weekend against Stoke, Norwich City will turn their attention to struggling Coventry when the two sides do battle in a midweek clash.
With Brentford losing 2-0 to Barnsley, Norwich’s 4-1 win over the Potters took them back to the top of the table. It was a welcome win for Daniel Farke’s charges, who were winless and goalless in their last four games across all competitions before the SCFC clash.
Norwich’s last five (oldest first)
Barnsley 1-0 Norwich
Norwich 0-0 Middlesbrough
Millwall 0-0 Norwich
Swansea 2-0 Norwich
Norwich 4-1 Stoke
The win also highlighted Emiliano Buendia’s importance to the Canaries. The Argentine, back from suspension, played an influential role- he had both a goal and an assist to his name as Norwich scored 3 or more at Carrow Road for the first time since that epic win over Man City back in September 2019.
Teemu Pukki was also back among the goals as he bagged a brace against Stoke, including one from the penalty spot. These were his first league goals for the club since December against QPR and took his NCFC tally to 54- level with Wes Hoolahan. A goal against Coventry will see the striker equal Tommy Bryceland’s record and break into the top 20 in the list of the club’s all time record scorers. Back in his native country, Olybet Suomi also have the Finnish forward as the most likely Canaries player to find the back of the net against the Sky Blues.
Coventry haven’t won a game this month, with draws against Birmingham City and Watford and losses to Nottingham Forest and Cardiff. They could easily end February winless- their next three games are against sides that make up the top three in the league currently- this oupcoming ne against Norwich followed by fixtures against Brentford and Swansea.
The home side also have a poor recent H2H record against the Canaries- they haven’t beaten them for over a decade now. The two teams also met as recently as last month, with a second string Norwich prevailing 2-0 in that FA Cup clash thanks to quickfire goals from Kenny McLean and Jordan Hugill.
Norwich 2-0 Coventry
Coventry 1-1 Norwich
Norwich 6-1 Coventry
Norwich 3-0 Coventry
Coventry 0-3 Norwich
This is also a fantastic opportunity for Norwich to strengthen their hold on top spot in the table. After the Coventry game are fixtures against Rotherham, Birmingham and Wycombe Wanderers- all teams in the bottom four currently, and ergo winnable on paper, before an all-important clash against Brentford at home early next month. Only one point separates Norwich from the Bees currently. Third placed Swansea are five behind but do have two games in hand.
