If reports in Germany are to be believed, Liverpool are said to be very interested in rising Werder Bremen star Milot Rashica. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has often turned to the Bundesliga during his stint at Anfield, with the likes of Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, Loris Karius and Naby Keita all arriving from German clubs, and the versatile Rashica could be his newest signing, with the gaffer having already sent out scouts to monitor the 23-year-old’s progress this season.
Rashica primarily plays on the left side of a front three, but also play in the centre and on the right if required, and it is this versatility that makes him an attractive proposition for Klopp. He started his career with Vushtrria in his native Kosovo before moving to Vitesse in the Eredivisie in 2015. After two and a half seasons with the Arnhem based outfit, Werder came calling, and he joined them in the 2018 winter window.
Rashica has already hit the double digit mark in terms of goals in both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons and has been one of the standout players for Bremen, who are currently languishing in the drop zone. He is also comfortably their top scorer this year, and SVW sporting director Frank Baumann has admitted to Bild that a transfer for the Kosovar international could very well be on the cards given his exploits this season.
Rashica, while attracted to the idea of Champions League footy, has said that his primary aim is to keep Bremen up. The club have been in the top flight for 39 consecutive seasons and if you reckon they can make it 40 and avoid the drop despite their poor run of form, be sure to use this site before having a punt on the North Germany outfit to stay up.
Rashica would probably be a replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri, the Swiss international who has struggled for minutes this season and could be heading for the exit door in the summer as he seeks regular football.
Klopp will be keen to avoid the same fate that has befallen Tottenham Hotspur, with a lack of fresh faces resulting in the club stagnating and Mauricio Pochettino eventually being shown the door. The Lilywhites, CL finalists last season, have practically written this season off and were very disappointing in the manner they fell to Leipzig in the Round of 16.
Not all of Klopp’s signings from Germany have been successes- Matip has probably been the best of the lot. The likes of Karius, Manninger and Klavan weren’t quite up to the standards of the Reds, while Keita has endured a frustrating second season, with the rumour mills already linking him with a move back to Leipzig.
Rashica would also come in a lot cheaper than the likes of say, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner or Jadon Sancho, with the German press reckoning a bid of around 30 million pounds would be enough to prise him away from the Weserstadion.
