Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are said to be willing to listen to offers for Jadon Sancho in the upcoming winter transfer window, according to reports emanating from Germany. Sancho has long been a target for PL clubs following his stunning rise in the German top flight, but Dortmund were not willing to sell their prize asset, and even turned down Manchester United when the latter came calling for the teenager last year.
However the relationship between Sancho and BVB has taken a turn for the worse over the last few months, and the forward was benched for their crucial Champions League clash against Barcelona at the Nou Camp- a game the former won 3-1 to confirm their progress to the Round of 16. Sancho replaced Nico Schulz at the interval and went on to score BVB’s only goal of the game.
The 19 year old was allegedly late for team meetings and training sessions ahead of the Barca trip, which forced Lucien Favre to bench him for disciplinary reasons. Similar allegations dogged Sancho during his stint at Man City, and were said to be a key reason for the Citizens allowing his departure despite his prodigious talent.
Will Sancho essentially be the next Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Ousmane Dembele, both players who effectively forced their departures from the Westfalenstadion after clashing with the powers that be at the Ruhr valley outfit? Like Sancho, Aubameyang and Dembele were also successes at Dortmund, but were keen to exit when foreign clubs expressed their interest.
According to the odds on https://bestbetsfree.com, Manchester United (8/1) are being seen as the favourites to sign Sancho, followed by Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. If Sancho would prefer a move to London, Arsenal are also said to be interested in signing the England international.
BVB have not earmarked a successor for Sancho yet, and there is some lingering doubt over the future of Favre, with the club sitting a lowly sixth in the Bundesliga and having suffered an embarrassing 4-0 loss to arch rivals Bayern earlier this month. Dortmund are however only five points behind leaders Borussia Monchengladbach, which means Favre does have some breathing space and time at his disposal.
Sancho is contracted to Dortmund till the summer of 2022, and was handed a salary hike earlier this year. He is reported to be valued at around 100 million euros currently, and has already earned 11 caps for the senior England team.
