This Victor Lindelof tackle on Divock Origi was a controversial moment in the build up to Marcus Rashford’s opening goal for the Reds in their league clash on 20 October, 2019. Lindelof appeared to foul Lindelof before United broke away, but after a lengthy VAR referral, the VAR referee David Coote decided it was not “clear and obvious” enough to overrule the goal awarded by on field ref Martin Atkinson.

Dive, all day long. Look, I hate United more than anyone, but Origi’s touch is heavy and he dives. I think this is correct. To be honest if VAR had given that freekick it would’ve been opening the flood gates. Every single goal would be challenged and now it’s all guess work. And yes I understand the physics of getting kicked, but I don’t understand why Origi grabs his right ankle. The pain does not vibrate all the way down to your achilles. His was a poorly executed dive and I’m glad that it didn’t get sold, even though it meant the scum scored.
