Antonio Conte appointed new Inter manager- Can he stop the Juve juggernaut?

Rather surprisingly early this morning (May 31, 2019), Inter Milan have appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager. The former Juve, Italy and Chelsea boss takes over from Luciano Spaletti at the San Siro.

Conte, sacked by Chelsea at the end of the 2017/18 season, chose to go through a lengthy legal battle that eventually went in his favour after Chelsea were order to pay him £9m in compensation.

Inter managed to qualify for the Champions League thanks to their win on the final day of the season against Empoli, and it means that Conte could square off against his former employers in Europe next season.

Conte is considered as the man who effectively built the current Juve juggernaut. He lead the Bianconeri to their first title in Italy this decade back in 2012, and they’ve dominated Serie A since, winning all league titles on offer.

Conte’s addition at Inter will make next season’s Derby d’Italia a tasty one. The move also re-unites him with Beppe Marotta, who was Juve Chief executive during Conte’s hugely successful stint in Turin.

What this means for the future of Mauro Icardi remains to be seen. We’ll probably see the Argentine striker exit Inter this summer.
