Weston McKennie vs Man City Champions League- How did he play for Schalke & Performance Rating from German media

American midfielder Weston McKennie was in action against Man City in the Champions League last night and the 20 year old gave a very good account of himself at the Veltins Arena. He started and played 78 minutes before being replaced by Steven Skrybzski. When he left the pitch, Schalke were leading 2-1- they eventually lost 3-2!

Waz: Waz were particularly impressed by the two balls he won off Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne in the first half, and added that he was strong aerially. They gave him a 2- the best rating for a player on the squad along with Nabil Bentaleb, who scored both of Schalke’s goals from the spot.

Ran: Ran gave McKennie a 2 and had him as one of the three best Schalke players on show along with Bentaleb and Matija Nastasic

Sport1: Sport1 noted that S04 lost a bit of their intensity once McKennie came off. They also gave him a 2, the second best rating for a player on the Schalke squad after Bentaleb (1.5)

Spiegel: Spiegel were impressed by McKennie’s performance and added that he’s been the best Schalke outfield player over the last few weeks.
