Ever since he took as over as Juve’s general manager (Direttore Generale or DG in Italian) in 2010, Giuseppe Marotta has made some astounding free transfers in the market. The latest is Emre Can, who will move from Anfield to Turin for the 2018/19 season (four year contract) after completing his medical today (June 21, 2018)
DG Beppe Marotta’s major free transfer signings for Juve.
2010/11- Luca Toni
2011/12- Andrea Pirlo
2012/13- Lucio, Paul Pogba, Nicolas Anelka
2013/14- Fernando Llorente
2014/15- Kingsley Coman
2015/16- Sami Khedira, Neto
2016/17- Dani Alves
2017/18- Emre Can
Note- this is not an exhaustive list, merely a list of “major” signings, excluding players who did sign on a free, but didn’t quite have the same impact as the big names mentioned here (Michele Pazienza and Reto Ziegler for example)
Some fantastic signings there one has to say- you could almost make a starting XI out of those free transfers, and Marotta has had a massive hand in Juve’s resurgence this decade, both domestically and in Europe.
