Leeds United have appointed Paul Heckingbottom as their new manager. The 40 year old was in charge of Barnsley and had signed a new contract with the Tykes just last week, but Leeds reportedly paid £500,000 to activate a release clause in his new deal and bring him to Elland Road. He replaces Thomas Christiansen, who was shown the door after just eight months in charge.
Heckingbottom has signed a one and a half year deal with the Whites, tying him to the club till the summer of 2019. Leeds are currently 10th in the league table and have not won since Boxing Day.
Heckingbottom has a tough first three games in charge- with Sheffield United, Bristol City and Derby County, all three promotion hopefuls, being their next opponents.
Barnsley are 21st in the league currently but were 14th last season under Heckingbottom
