Barcelona have officially completed the signing of defender Yerry Mina from Brazilian outfit Palmeiras. The 23 year old has joined for a fee of 11.8 million euros and has put pen to paper a five and a half year deal at the Nou Camp.
The Colombian international was also reportedly recommended to Real Madrid by teammate James Rodriguez, but Los Blancos passed up on the opportunity to sign up. He has had only one red card so far in his professional career- in 2013 against Deportivo Pasto, and has a pretty good scoring rate for a defender.
What is Yerry Mina’s release clause?
Mina’s release clause has been put at 100 million euros
Mina becomes Barcelona’s second official signing of the winter transfer window after Philippe Coutinho, who joined the Blaugrana for 142 million pounds. He is expected to fill the void to be left by Javier Mascherano’s imminent departure, although Mina’s flamboyant style and celebrations are in contrast to the more serious Mascherano
Mina has made 33 appearances at Palmeiras and has played alongside Gabriel Jesus, who now plies his trade for Man City. He joined the Brazilian side after winning the Copa Sudamericana with Santa Fe. Barca manager Ernesto Valverde confirmed that Mina had been on their radar for a long time. He will be the first Colombian to play a competitive fixture for the Catalan giants.
