Brazilian legend Kaka has officially called time on his playing career after announcing his retirement. The 35 year old forward is the last player NOT named Messi or Ronaldo to win the Ballon D’Or, when he won the trophy in 2007 after playing a pivotal role in Milan’s Champions League triumph (check out his goal v Man Utd when Heinze and Evra collided in an effort to stop him).
At the time of writing, Kaka is one of three players to have achieved the treble of World Cup, Champions League and Ballon D’Or.
Kaka played 92 times for Brazil and scored 29 goals and was a member of the Seleccao squad that won the World Cup in 2002. His best years were with Milan, but he also had a short, albeit not as successful stint with Real Madrid after transferring to them for a then world record £56m back in 2009. His last club was Orlando City in the MLS.
Here is Kaka’s message on Twitter announcing his retirement on December 17, 2017.
“Father, it was much more than I could ever [have] imagined. Thank you! I’m now ready for the next journey. In Jesus’ name. Amen”
