VFL Wolfsburg have appointed Arsenal academy boss Andries Jonker as their new manager. He is the German outfit’s THIRD coach this season after Dieter Hecking and Valerien Ismael, and their 10th since 2009. Wolfsburg are currently 14th in Germany with 22 points from as many games, but third from bottom HSV are only two points behind.
Jonker was a caretaker manager for Bayern Munich when they parted ways with Louis van Gaal. Former Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg has also quit his position with the Gunners to join Jonker at the Volkswagen Arena as assistant manager.
The 54 year old Jonker has signed a contract till the end of next season. Wolfsburg’s first game with him in charge will be against FSV Mainz, who are three places above the Wolves in the table.
Jonker’s tenure as Arsenal academy head hasn’t been the finest either- several of the Gunners’ young talents haven’t quite reached the heights they were expected to in his three years at the Emirates (he took over from Brady in 2014)
