Bastian Schweinsteiger has literally been written off as an asset from Manchester United’s books after the club’s accounts for the year ending June 30, 2016 revealed that the club had registered an impairment charge of £6.7m “regarding a reduction in the carrying value of a player no longer considered to be a member of the first team playing squad”
The player is understood to be Schweinsteiger, who was bought for around 9 million euros by United last year. He is no longer considered part of the first team at United and is currently training with the U23 squad, but has stated that United will be his last club in Europe and he will be available if the club “needs him”. Schweinsteiger reportedly earns around £190,000 a week at Old Trafford and has two years left on his current deal.
United also revealed that they had paid Louis van Gaal £8.4m in severance fees
