Check out referee Viktor Kassai’s reaction after Germany skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger chose the goal near the Italian stand for the penalty shootout in Die Mannschaft’s quarterfinal against the Azzurri. Schweinsteiger won both the tosses for the shootout and opted for the goal at the Italian end of the stadium, and ALSO asked Italy to go first.
Schweinsteiger later explained his logic saying Bayern lost to Chelsea in 2012 (shooting towards the Bayern end), but won against Real Madrid (shooting towards the Real Madrid end) and that other teams had similar luck with penalties at this year’s Championships (Switzerland lost shooting rowards their own fans)
You can see Kassai’s face widen with surprise, and he double checks with Schweinsteiger. He asks the United star “you know that’s the Italian stand” to which Schweini replies in the affirmative.

Germany eventually won the game 6-5 on penalties, with Zaza and Pelle missing crucial kicks for Italy.
