Roy Hodgson has named his 26 man provisional England squad for the upcoming 2016 European Championships, and there are a couple of high profile absentees, with Arsenal’s Theo Walcott and Everton’s Phil Jagielka both missing out. Hodgson said that Walcott’s lack of playing time lead to his dropping, but that was apparently not an excuse for the forward’s Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere, who made the squad despite effectively playing 1/10 of the time that Walcott did (141 minutes to Walcott’s 1373, and 3 games to Walcott’s 28 league appearances)
Marcus Rashford has been rewarded for a breakthrough season with Manchester United. Impressive Newcastle winger Andros Townsend makes it too, presumably at Walcott’s expense
