Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini banned for 8 years by Ethics committee

Beleaguered FIFA president Sepp Blatter and European soccer head Michel Platini have both been banned for 8 years by the governing body’s Ethics committee.

While investigating the payment of 2 million Swiss francs (CHF) made by FIFA to Platini back in 2011, the committee found a clear “conflict of interest” and lack of commitment to an ethical attitude.

At 79, the eight year ban will almost certainly mean the end of Blatter’s career. In addition to the ban, he was also fined 50,000 Swiss francs with a heavier fine (80,000 CHF) being imposed on Platini.

Both Platini and Blatter are expected to file appeals.
