The group stages for the Champions League 2014/15 season was done today (August 28th, 2014), and Liverpool’s return to Europe has seen them land a fairly decent draw with Real Madrid, Basel and Ludogorets. Ludogorets, of course, had a defender save two penalties in the shootout to qualify for the knockout stages.
Chelsea probably have the easiest draw among English teams, drawn with Schalke, Sporting and Maribor.
Man City face a tricky group, with Bayern and Roma also with them.
Arsenal have Dortmund in Group D, with Anderlecht and Galatasaray also present
Group A: Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Olympiakos, Malmo
Group B: Real Madrid, Basel, Liverpool, Ludogorets Razgrad
Group C: Benfica, Zenit St Petersburg, Bayer Leverkusen, Monaco
Group D: Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray, Anderlecht
Group E: Bayern Munich, Manchester City, CSKA Moscow, Roma
Group F: Barcelona, Paris St-Germain, Ajax, APOEL Nicosia
Group G: Chelsea, Schalke, Sporting Lisbon, Maribor
Group H: Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Athletic Bilbao, BATE Borisov
UEFA clearly don’t like City. They get the most difficult draw every time. Feel for Roma too, would be competitive in most other groups, but would find this tough.
Chelsea have it easy, Arsenal fairly easy, not as straightforward as Chelsea though.
And to that defender who saved two penalties for the Bulgarian side, congrats bud, Liverpool and Real Madrid are coming to your stadium!
