  1. Really got to feel for Iker. Nobody likes a class player like him to be shown up on football’s biggest stage.

Looking forward to see if Van Gaal brings Sneijder to Man Utd.

And lastly, why were BOTH teams playing in alternate kits? Spain were actually wearing a third kit.

  2. @Sean:

Sean, the reason for the alternate kits is stupid, but here’s how it goes:

    – Spain has the ‘home game’, they have dark red shirts.
    – Netherlands needs to wear away kits, since they are ‘visiting’.
    – Netherlands away kit conflicts with home kit of Spain, both dark.
    – Spain changes in to away kit, which is dark too.
    – Since Netherlands plays an away game, they can’t use the orange shirt.
    – Spain changes in to third kit. NL is dark blue and spain white. “Problem” solved

  3. @Sieb,

I don’t think the Dutch are prevented from wearing orange just because they are the away team.

Spain of course have first dibs on which kit they want to wear, but if they wore away, then Holland could use their orange one, couldn’t they?

  4. No, because they were the away team.

Either both teams play with the home kit, or the ‘home’ team only.
    Not the ‘visiting’ team.
    Stupid FIFA bureaucratic stuff.

  5. If Spain wore their away kit (which is black), Netherlands could have worn their home kit (orange). It would be kind of weird though, since Netherlands was the away team.

Spain could also wear their home kit and Netherlands their away kit but with alternate shorts.

  6. spain home shirt is close to orange..
    netherlands home shirt is orange..
    the referee shirt is orange..
so they not wearing their home shirt 🙂

  7. I remain confident in Spain. The game in the first half was good, the best seen so far in the championship with Italy and england. Defensive errors can be corrected and not all teams have a front like Holland. The third holland goal was decisive on a clear error by referee. Come on Spain. Yes We Can.
