This Alan Pardew headbutting Meyler (VIDEO GIF BELOW) was a controversial incident on the touchline during Newcastle United’s league clash against Hull City on March 1, 2014. Magpies manager Pardew took offence when Tigers midfielder Meyler shoved him aside in an attempt to take a throw in, and retaliated with a headbutt, for which he was promptly sent off.

Pardew’s headbutting incident took place when Newcastle were leading 3-1, and the Magpies went on to score one more to win 4-1.

Meyler wasn’t in the right by pushing Pardew, but as a long standing manager, the latter should have known better than to retaliate, especially with a headbutt.
I know the argument about Pardew being in a place of responsibility. But you see this kind of thing time and time again. The players know that a £10,000 fine, a match ban and a slap on the wrist is not much. The F.A really has to clamp down. If this was a manager from a different country where retaliation is a bit more acceptable, the outcome might have been a full on brawl refs and all.
