Bayern Munich vs Barcelona and Dortmund vs Real Madrid in Champions League Semifinals 2012-13

The semifinal draw for the 2012/2013 Champions League provided for the possibility of an El Clasico final at Wembley as Barcelona were drawn against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid against Borussia Dortmund. Bayern and Dortmund will host the first legs ( to be played on April 23 and 24, 2013) while the return legs will be held on 30 April and 1 May, 2013.

Barcelona have never lost a European knockout tie to German opposition and beat Bayern 5-1 on aggregate when the two sides met in the 2008-09 edition of the Champions League in the last eight, including a spectacular 4-0 first half demolition of the Bavarians at the Nou Camp. They also beat Bayern 2-0 in a pre-season friendly in the Audi Cup in 2011

Madrid and Dortmund, of course met in the group stages earlier this season with Dortmund prevailing 2-1 in Germany and holding Madrid to a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu.

  1. Wow a real spain vs germany in this year’s edition 😉 Can’t wait to see both matches. I think the most suprising thing is Borussia Dortmund reaching the round. It’s their first time, isn’t it ?

  2. Dortmund actually has one win in 1998. Have not made an appearance since. Rematch of the group phase should be interesting

  3. Well, though i respect every team that is left. I feel Real Madrid got the best draw they could hope for. At the end i think it will be a Bayern Real Madrid final.

  4. surely mourinho would not lose to the same opponent twice….that would mean madrid already in finals

  5. Hope everything ‘s gone well…..we expected to face FCB but they were lucky b***ards! Anyway we can catch’em in the final if they(FCB) beats BM…..

  6. Barcelona is one of the best team in the world, so what do u expected guys, I don`t believe in fates, I believe in team work.
    VIVA! Bravo! Bravo! Barca forever

  7. I think Real Madrid will be able to get through to the final, not because they have an easy match, simply because i refuse to believe that Real Madrid will commit the same mistakes they committed against dortmund in the group stages. So i expect to see them there. I think Barcelona face a harder task mainly because they have been having quite a few dowfalls this year in the champions league, Bayern Munich are a thought team to beat.

  8. real is lucky…..they stood no chance against bayern or barca but now they 51% chance to make to the final

  9. surely its a Real madrid vBayern munich final @wembley .cant wait to see a repeat of last seasons semifinals .Ronaldo ,Ozil ,Di maria Kaka .Khedira and the group taking on the likes of Mueller,Robben.Ribery and the attacking machine midfielder the jearsey number 31 guy in action on the 25 of may 2013

  10. Bayern Munich is by far the best team in the Champions League this season, barca and real madrid have some big name players but it needs collective effort to win the champions League. Borussia Dortmund are the dark horses but i can see Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich final this time and Bayern to win it with ease. they wont lose it 3 times in 4 years. they surely wont ;..

  11. real madrid remportera la league des champions, parceque le real rencontrera bayern a wembley au score de 2-1

  12. I hope the match officials wont be scared of Real Madrid by protecting them we want fair play a good team must win no matter the name

  13. I am big fan of Barca, but I think that Bayern has more chances to advance. But football is unpredictable.

  14. well i think barca will beat bayer in s final and final will be played with barca vs dormund
    barca will win champion league

  15. I feel Bayern have the advantage over Barca, as they have proven once again how clinical they can be in the Champions League. They dismantled Juve in both legs, with some key players missing. Barca are the best team in the world, but they have been susceptible to conceding against other sides (Celtic and Juve) that are not as strong as Bayern, as proven in the last round. Possession will be key, but I believe Bayern will have more of the ball at the Allianz. Barca’s fullbacks, Alves and Alba, like to get forward at any oppurtunity and I see this being their downfall. Bartra is only a young and inexperienced man, even with Pique at his side (who hasn’t been at his usual high standards), they will concede. Bayern’s attack of Gomez, Robben, Muller and Ribery, looks a lot more deadly than Barca’s semi-fit Messi, Sanchez, Villa and Iniesta. In my opinion, Lahm is the best fullback in the world and with a very strong unit that Bayern have I don’t see them conceding more than the solitary goal. The Bundesliga is a lot more competitive than the La Liga, so Bayern have been able to prepare for this game much better than Barca. I’m going for a 3-1 Munchen win and Dortmund to join them in the Final.

  16. @ Kaiser, judging by the recent thrashings Bayern have been handing out to everyone, doesn’t look like the Bundesliga’s been more competitive.

  17. @ Sean,

The thrashings once again show Bayern’s dominance.

I was referring to the fact in the last 10 seasons, there have been 5 different Bundesliga champions. In that same time period, only 3 different Spanish teams have won the La Liga.

  18. What a display from Bayern. Barca were destroyed in every part of the pitch.

I feel Bayern can replicate this at the Nou Camp.

  19. @ Kaiser, the thrashings from Bayern and Dortmund only serve to enhance your point regarding the Bundesliga being better than Spain.

But would you say that Leverkusen, Schalke, Freiburg and Frankfurt (3,4,5 and 6) would be better than Atletico, Sociedad, Valencia and Malaga.

I’d say not. Spain’s competitive, but the millions put in by Madrid and Barca, plus the fact they’re able to get more chunk of tv revenue, skews the league in their favour.

The German league was competitive in that sense over the last decade because all the clubs were at a similar level. Bayern have only started to get their act together in the last three years with a settled squad ( remember 2008/09 when Barca destroyed them 4-0?) . And with them buying Gotze ( and Lewandowski ?), I think it’ll be a two horse race in Germany next season, and possibly for the next few seasons to come, a la Spain.

  20. i thnk the germanys will go through it wil be Dortmund vs beyern final compared to the way they are playing now days and they dont depend on one man like Real depends on Ronaldo and barca depends on Messi.
