  1. Dangerous thing to try though, especially after his last kick during a penalty shootout went into orbit and hasn’t been found yet.

  2. Congrats Spain.

Four years ago, they were the toast of the world.

This time, their campaign hasn’t had the same oomph about it

  3. portugal was not up to the mark, they were looking afraid of casilas that is why there shots were showing oomph factor, Ronaldo had penalty of chances, he should have came to take first penalty to earn lead for his country ,, spain was fortunate to win , final will be among germany and spain,, Germany is the winner of euro cup….

  4. I don’t know why Ronaldo didn’t take the second penalty kick to boost his team mates psychologically as a captain after the first Portugal player missed.

Portugal shouldn’t depend too much upon Ronaldo as Spain depend on no one but on a team play. Spain can win without Xavi, Puyol and Torres but Portugal will never win game without Ronaldo and Nani. That’s the difference between the two.

  5. Ronaldo wanted to be an hero by waiting to make last shoot out. He is a great player but he lacks humility. Spain has played the best football but they must be more agressive to beat the germans or the italians. Germany is favorite.

  6. I think both teams played a good game only that they played penalties with anxiety and fear of losing.
I congratulate Spain for their Team Work Spirit’ which assured them a win against Portugal’s Ronaldo & Nani individual talents.
Go Spain and record the history again, i tell u. Bravo!

  7. So sorry it came down to penalties, and yes CR should have had a go and maybe Portugal would have won. The team played an excellent game and prevented Spain from scoring during the match, therefore I cant say Spain were the better team. Just a lot of luck. Haveing said that
I am still a Spanish supporter (after a CR7 supporter) and am glad that at least one of the teams has made it to the finals.

  8. Both teams were more or less equal, in fact no one scored. Portugal, though, was slightly better and should have won, both for the energy they showed in the first 100 minutes and for their ability to neutralize that hideous tiki-taka.

  9. spain played as usual…they are the best team in da world so far..with the amazing line up…yes portugal were gud enough…but not as good as spain…as portugal got chances which went way off target…somthng which u dunt expect from ronaldo in such a match…never the less..the deserving team went through as they proved it on penalties…and hats off to cassilas for saving the first one after bein in pressure that alonso hasnt scored…

  10. You are quite right, Saihrem. But you should add: why didn’t Rui Patrício defend all the penalties?
Unfortunately, the Euro 2012 is unfolding as foreseen.
As portuguese, a special word for those, from other countries, who supported Portugal yesterday.
The national song of my country is “fado”, meaning fate. I don’t like it.

  11. Surprised by how well Portugal played yesterday.

Many people had anticipated a spanking for them, but I feel they deserved to go through over 120 minutes, even if Spain finished strongly

  12. Great Portugal , but is not easy won to Spain. It is necesary more that Ronaldo. Spain was worst during the first 90 but had the better occasions and in the overtime could win. The penaltys are a lottery but feels are important and spain thinks like a champion.

  13. portugal were looking better in first half. Second half was equally poised . During extratime spain had full control oer portgal. Portugal were lucky to not concede a goal in extra time.as for penalties ronaldo should hae lead the pack instead of seeking own glory. I feel the best team on that day won. Go spain win the cup

  14. Cant even imagine wat Ronaldo feels like. Sad for the Portugese, deserved to be finalists. Inexperienced penalty takers were their downfall in the end. But well done, they can only improve.

  15. There isnt much to say but both teams played great with Portugal having the better game for about 100 minutes …Spain did look better for the extra time and as for penalties it’s always a matter of luck… But over all Portugal deserved to win that game … Justice was not done may b they should eliminate penalties and just play golden goal after extra time to find a winner … Penalties doesn’t really decide who the better team is with that said I hope Spain uppers their game if they want to win against the Germans because I don’t think Italy has the strength to beat them and as for Portugal I hope they keep their heads high because they have the world cup to look forward to which I think they r a top pick to win after the performance they had in the euro…

  16. One ball it the crossbar and came off, the next it the pole and went in…Luck or lack of it, is an important part of sport and life general. As far as I am concern, it all came down to this.

CR7 scored 3 times in the Euro, now he is guilty? Portugal can’t do without him and Nani, what about the game in which Nani was replaced by Varela which scored straight away the winning goal, and made a hell of game.

I think most fans would prefer to see Portugal go foward, as they are a hell of a team, but they were unlucky, and in sport as in life we have to live with it

  17. i cant blame alves, its just that portugal were unluck but they deserved that game.anyway they are up for the bronze medal.

  18. Football’s a funny game.

Both Cesc and Ronaldo wanted to take their respective side’s fifth penalties.

Cesc’s been applauded by the press, while folks are baying for Ronaldo’s blood.

  19. you all can only bitch abt RONALDO where the manager asked him to take 5th penalty. and if ronaldo had taken 4th penalty and it was equalized

though 5th penalty was crucial……. y always CRISTIANO has to be blamed y nt the 2guys who missed it.

he play’d a fantastic game ….. WE all know piqie and serio besquet’s cheap tackles n ramos also stood still in some of the great runs from cristiano and NANI ……

Portugal team made me and their fan proud……..!!!!!!!

  20. and lets not forget PEPE n FABIO ..they were the best defender n full back of the tournament who doesnt allow spain to score..

  21. Portugal was as good as Spain and Better in the first half. I admit in extra-time spain was better but they won by luck…so no one can say that Spain is better than Portugal right now, they’re equal. And i do not agree with the whole Nani-Ronaldo are the “team” of portugal…you’re forgetting Coentrão, Veloso, Meireles, Moutinho, Pepe, they also are part of the team and helped portugal ! They made it to the semis working like a team ! if there was only Nani-Cristiano playing well we certainly wouldn’t be that good !

  22. So many teams have had Spain on the ropes but failed to take advantage

    Italy when leading 1-0

Croatia for most of their game, robbed by the referee

    and now portugal

  23. SPAIN PLAYED VERY FANTASTIC IAM VERY INSPIRED WITH THEM BUT IAM VERY UPSET XABI ALONSO BUT LEAVE IT .
I WISH SPAIN ALL THE BEST IN FINAL

  24. Though Portuguese lost match, but it was good in 90min match as they performed well. Ronaldo was good in field but lucky Spain won in shoot out.

  25. I wasn’t a chance to watch the game due to absence of electiricity in Shambu. As I understod from highlight I am sorry for Portugal.

  26. Yes, once again Spain (capital letters, it’s a country) was lucky; and yesterday they did not play that boring style of spider looking for the chance… They simply respected us and did their job.
One football team is not a military squad, creativity is needed, controlled audacity too.
With J. Mourinho, and others from my small but intrepid country, we could have been winners.
Paulo Bento must be happy, because to arrive at the semi-finals was a great outcome.
Respect for his effort, but we expected more.

  27. Cristiano Ronaldo certainly put in the effort, but his finishing left much to be desired. Chances are few and far between at this level, and he failed to make them count. His free-kicks also lacked the accuracy which we know he is capable of. Unfortunately, Ronaldo tends to flatter to deceive at major tournaments like Wayne Rooney. This is why the Portuguese captain cannot claim to be as good as Lionel Messi. He simply lacks the consistency of the Argentine superstar, who can rightly claim to be the best player in the world. If Ronaldo could reproduce his splendid club form on the international stage against more formidable opponents like Spain, Portugal would be within sight of their first major honour. Instead, he will return home like Rooney; someone who never quite inspired his team to greater heights in spite of the hopes of a nation being placed on his shoulders.

  28. well! It all happened and Spain won. Cr7 failed to take is team to d final bcos of his pride. Playing free kick was also a problem 4 cr7. Tnks to iniesta who made it to d final. Go spain 4 d cup.

  29. Edmund Khoo, you’ve put the finger on the dot. It’s not enough to be good, you must be concentrated, have confidence. Indeed Messi is technically better then Ronaldo, but this has perhaps more strength for shooting and he does not lack creativity. But, sometimes, as recently, he took the tricky task of converting a penalty as if he was strolling along the beach. Mourinho defends his players, but is tough with them, as far as I know.

  30. Humility. Anyone has ever heard Eusébio saying “I’m better than Di Stefano”?
Within himself, maybe Ronaldo believes that Messi is better than him… That’s the problem, lack of confidence.
Varela, that black player that scored for Portugal a goal without which we would not be in the 1/2 finals… Does anyone pamper him? Yes, the blame is ours.

  31. Great to see that Spain in the final & other side may be the Italians can be face the final though German is favorite & I want to see the trophy for the Spanish educated footballers.

  32. Ronaldo should have taken Bruno Alves’ place for the penalties. Big mistake. Cesc Fabregas only just scored his penalty, who knows, what might have happened if Ronaldo took the fourth spot. It might have caused Cesc to miss. Then Bruno Alves might have had the confidence to score.

Any way, fair play to Spain, who have a great team talent. Play as a team with some finesse.

  33. Indeed Will Webb! In portuguese we have the saying “the candle ahead iluminates twice”.

  34. I don’t think that Portugal are as bad as people are making them out to be. They have some amazing players other than Nani and CR7, like Raul Mireles, Pepe, Hugo Almeda. Sure they may not be of the same calibre of Nani and CR7 but they work well with each other. This is the same with Spain as well… Spain no doubt have amazing players, but when you compare them on an idividual basis you could possibly say that they’re bad. I.e. Compare Jordi Alba with Ramos and you’ll see that Ramos is most definitely better, but you can’t say that on this basis, Spain are a bad team. What I’m trying to say is that, just because a player is more individual than another, does not mean that the team they play for is bad.
