  1. Ashley Young has been poor throughout this tournament

Gotta feel for Ashley Cole though- such a great tournament he’s had, but that was a poor penalty

  2. England were hopeless – They lack confidence and self-belief, unfit, cant pass, disconnected, flat-footed, boring, no-heart, cant take penalties, cant control the ball, poor skill level – I wouldnt blame this on the coach, they have played like this for years – they really need to raise their standard to an international level and play as though they want to win for their country.

  3. Well, Roy’s two banks of four gameplan almost came off.

Thought it would be a repeat of Euro 96 QF- wasn’t to be be

  4. can someone tell me what’s the name of the song from the end of the game, that starts at 07:07 in the rutube video

  5. The results were expected, can’t blame the Hodgons entirely, Ashley Young was too young to take the penalty, power over composure, Ashley Cole’s shot was weak, shitty England team, oh wait, Liverpool team. They should have killed the game during the normal time.

  6. It was an real bad performance from both sides really, They both played club level foot ball , missed open post chances, what poor team England is despite of so much advertisement of EPL players were looking miserably hopeless on international field , rooney was looking a show piece out there he did nothing except from the penalty , after watching this match Italy have no chances against Germany…final will be between Spain and Germany if Portugal cant pull the upset victory against Spain

  7. you’re right claudio. this is how eufa champions league should ended. better teams win.

  8. they never played good football for their national team thn what EPL worth for, well done ITALY ..sad day for Gerrard..VIVA ITALINO.

  9. Feel for steven gerrad . Strikers didn’t had good coordination with midfield. Looked it was italy’s day.

  10. Chelsea won the Champions League finale beatifully and even God sided them! Don’t simply judge what’s “right” team to win in any match as people always say “Ball is Round”!

  11. Might not have been the best team on watch but they certainly had their hearts in the right place. First time in a long, long period that I’ve felt proud of the England team at a major championship.

  12. The football was 50_50,accept that england relaxed during penalties.I admit spain & germany will play finals.

  13. Wasn’t 50-50, more like 90-10 in favour of Italy, especially in the second half

England made Italy look like Spain

  14. One phrases sums up the match (pre-penalties): England couldn’t keep the ball, Italy didn’t know what to do with it!

  15. Congratulations to both sides. Great match, great songs, fair-play, beautiful stadium, an ukrainian flag swinging in the air… and a good referee and helpers; good sign: no one talked about them.

  16. @Al & James – are you kidding or what?
English footballers need to shape up – they have been lagging in standard, confidence and fight for Gods knows how many years. A big dissappointment.
@babr you are quite right – international players make the English league what it is. English players are not as fit or skillful as the top world players and they (coaches, players and the F.A.) are getting paid enough to do something about it – they owe it to their supporters – the English!

  17. Luck was not on British Side this time. Ronney has not delivered the good. I think Caroll should enter earlier as he got every ball in the air, Perhaps the duo Gerrard/ caroll would work. Johnson, Terry and Hart have proved their efficiency. Italy facing the Germans will not be easy task.

  18. Never appeared to me that two world class teams were playing against each other. Was overall a mediocre match I must say. And England again proving to themselves that they cannot handle pressures and go down in all the crucial matches. Boring Match. That’ s my analysis.

  19. what a surprise, Germany & Portugal from Group B, Spain & Italy from Group C progressed for S/F & will face each other group winners & group runners up

  20. Richard, i was NOT KIDDING. Football is more, much more than just a game.
I’ve the utmost respect for you and your country.

  21. Richard is the only one who seems to know what he is talking about. Football is a simple game. It requires width and depth, and the ability to play one-touch football. England had neither width nor depth. They certainly do not have the skill to play one-touch football. As Richard rightly points out they ‘cannot pass, are disconnected and flat-footed……cannot control the ball and possess poor skill level’. I would also add that they are a team of ball watchers and ball chasers and lack the ability to close their opponents down. Every time Italy got the ball they had 3-5 yards in which to control the ball, turn and decide what to with it. England were not allowed the same courtesy by the Italians.
We have been delluding ourselves for years, ever since 1966, that we can compete on the world stage. Well, we cannot and we need to get back to basics. We need to learn the skills necessary to take on the likes of Spain, Germany and the stronger Latin American countries.
I disagree with Richard saying that the coaches are not to blame. They are! So is the manager. They should select only players with the skill to play one-touch football and wingers who toe the time, create width and stretch defences. They should be told to use one-touch football and play to their wishes. Anyone who cannot do so, or refuses to do so should be dropped and omitted from the squad. Only then will these overpaid ‘prima donnas’ learn to properly ply their trade.

  22. Chelsea fans, respect for my country. Richard said that “since 1966” you are out of the scene (more or less this). I don’t agree at all, because this year Chelsea won the C.L.
In 1966 i was already a fan of football and have watched that unforgetable match between England and Portugal; Eusebio had “sweat and tears” and you were the winners.
It’s time for the “pigs” to teach the eagles and lions.

  23. Typical English style…we hype our boys before a competition and rubbish them after they are knocked out! Only few people here had any encouragement for the team and manager. Does anyone have any statistics to show how pure criticism has improved our game? If you were that good, you should have been in the team that could well have beaten Italy last night. Or do you tnk our boys didn’t want to win last night? Viva England!

  24. The so called England players are indeed famous as regard name….. They seem to be more disappointing…. Up italy

  25. What a shame that Jack Wilshere was not fit enough to take part.
What was so glaringly obvious was that there was no-one in the England squad capable of making a killer pass for the strikers. Theo Walcott looked dangerous when he came on but no-one passed him the ball to bring him into the game as Jack would have done.
The way that Gerrard, Parker, Milner etc ran out of steam in the second half was embarrasing. I thought that English players at least were supposed to be fit and full of running.
Until we concentrate on developing skillful players instead of robots then we will never achieve anything at national level. However we have been saying this for years now and nothing changes

  26. England were average, our so called ‘Talisman’ Wayne Rooney flopped on the international stage yet again! when are people going to relise he’s just an average centre foreward! Ashley Young was terrible! apart from winning dudious penalties for Manchester United what use is he! Young should never be anywhere near an England team. The best player was Steven Gerrard, he played his heart out! If England had won,and don’t forget this was only an average Italian team, they would have been murdered by Germany!

  27. Antides Santo. I have a lot of respect for your country and any country that can play football. I, too, remember well the 1966 England v. Portugal game and the great Eusebio, the Black Panther. He is in my top three best players ever to grace the field behind George Best.
In my previous comment, I forgot to mention that it is football that a team should play, and not headball, chestball, thighball or any otherball. Therefore, it is essential that the ball be kept on the ground so that it can be quickly controlled or straight away utilized as in one-touch football. Too often, it is lofted over distance in the air giving the defender the time to go away for a smoke and return in time to intercept. No team, no matter how good, can defend against quick one-touch on the ground football. Spain have proved this as did Brazil in the early 70’s.

  28. @ Peter and Clock – I agree 100%
@Dee its as painful for me to say it as it is for you to hear that the English squad is simply technically and physically not good enough

  29. One point. We in the South are more used to June’s temperatures. Please, English friends, don’t tease your own players. Should the weather conditions have been rain or snow, the advantage would be on your side.
Rooney is a very good player but overweighted… Even the referee, from the South, was distilling sweat.

  30. Defeated as usual…………..when will the FA realise that there just are not enough ENGLISH players in the Premier league from which to choose an English team !!

  31. As others have pointed out England’s way of playing isn’t pleasant to watch, but they need a major shakeup from the grassroots level.

People having been bleating about it from time immemorial but no one seems to want to do some real spadework

  32. Anyone surprised with The result?
Lets be honest England performance was average with average players [apart from a couple] and an average manager that was sacked by a premier club in relation to average performances and went on to join another club to produce more average performances. Why did he allow Pirlo to roam around the pitch doing what and when he wanted?
