  1. How come Russia have better goal difference than Greece but Greece are through and Russia aren’t!?

    They are both on 4 points but Greece’s goal difference is 0 while Russia’s is +2…

  2. Fifa promotes our game as “the beautiful game” and we want attacking football to grab the headlines. Yet UEFA n Platini need their head checked for promoting the Greeks over the Russians because of a head to head rule. Whilst the Russians wer e extremely wasteful in front of goals, they were the best attacking force in their group. Thus should have progressed instead of the greeks because of their superior goal difference.
    The Russuans would have provided the Germans with a stirren test than the greeks who never touch the ball inside the german penalty box in,the first half. possesion wise german had 70% of the ball in the first half and on another night would have scored three or four before half time.

  4. Some very stupid comments on how Greece qualified instead of Russia. Goal difference was replaced by head-to-head. This is because head-to-head is a better tie breaker!! I will use teams that are vastly different in capability as an example….. Say its the world cup…. and Brazil and Argentina end up on the same points……. if Brazil beat New Zealand 10-0 and Argentina only beat New Zealand 5-0 but then go on to beat Brazil… then clearly Argentina deserve to qualify if they end up on the same points. Who cares if an inferior team that finished last in the group got pumped by more goals?? If two teams are going for the same spot in a group, then the result between them deserves more weight!! It is pretty logical and straight forward.

  5. And to Mickey… your comment is so stupid. Beautiful game?? haha seriously stupid. Footbal is not about entertainment…. and a lot of people dont seem to understand that. Football is like chess. You play to your strengths. Do u think Greece will be happy if they go out their and act like ballarinas and get pumped??? Hell no. They will stiffle their opponents and try and make the most of their opportunities. As Otto Rehhagel said “we will play attacking football when we have kaka, messi and xavi on the team” – beatifully said.
