Roy Hodgson announces England Euro 2012 Roster- Ferdinand misses out on English 23 member Euro 2012 squad

Roy Hodgson England Euro 2012 Squad

New England manager Roy Hodgson has unveiled his 23 man English squad for Euro 2012 today ( May 16, 2012) and there is no place for veteran Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, as revealed by the press earlier in the day. There is a spot for the Man Utd star’s long term national partner in defence, John Terry, who is currently at loggerheads with Ferdinand because of his ongoing racial dispute with the latter’s younger brother Anton.

Peter Crouch misses out but Andy Carroll’s late run of form in the season has seen him get a spot. There is no place for Norwich’s Grant Holt, but his team-mate John Ruddy is one of two uncapped players to make the squad, with exciting Arsenal youngster Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain being the other.

The squad boasts of four players each from Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea. London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham contribute two each with one player from West Ham, Norwich and Everton making up the 23 member roster.

  1. Doesn’t England have any better left winger than Stewart Downing?

How on earth has his form justified an inclusion for Euro 2012

Matty Jarvis would have been a better choice

  2. interesting that Oxlade-chamberlain got called up for it. Even more interesting was that lescott was chosen ahead of Rio ferdinand. I hope England makes it out of the group stages it could be tragic if they fail to do so.

  3. Why isn’t Grant Holt of Norwich one of the strikers? He is only the second highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League and is more than capable?

  4. His form for the england national team so far has been really good just that for liverpool all he does is shave the woodwork

  5. If I have to select first eleven for England;

Defence: Glen Johnson, Gary Cahill, John Terry, Ashley Cole
Midfield: Young, Gerrard, Barry, Adam Johnson
    Strikers: Carrol, Rooney

  6. BEST 11

Defence: Phil Jones, Gary Cahill, John Terry, Ashley Cole
Midfield: Young, Glen Johnson, Frank Lampard, Scott Parker
    Strikers: Gerrard, Rooney

  7. Where in gods name is Micah Richards he is much better then Phil jones he can play centre back aswell and where’s sturridge he is 500x better then carrol he is a lanky awkward flop

  8. Hodgson chooses Downing and Carroll is that if they did good he Hodgson well get complement from the fans and the media’s but if England fails to shine he can share the blame with Downing and Carroll.

  9. England team is generally a good one. I hope the black players will inspire the team to glory. England team had always been a strong squad largely lacking is self- belief.

  10. See that? Hogson fails in selection! Welbeck? Downing? Carrol (ahead of holt?)
