UPDATE 19 March 2012 from BWFC- FABRICE MUAMBA SHOWING SMALL SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT

The FA Cup tie between Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur on 17 March, 2012 was abandoned in the 41st minute of the game after Trotters midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed in the middle of the pitch. After Muamba’s collapse, referee Howard Webb took the decision of abandoning the game after discussions with Harry Redknapp and Owen Coyle.

Early reports seem to suggest he suffered from a heart attack/cardiac arrest on the pitch.

Muamba was given emergency CPR and then taken to the The Heart Attack Centre at The London Chest Hospital. Coyle and Kevin Davies were with him in the ambulance. He was not breathing when he was taken down the tunnel. Both sets of medics tried to revive him with a defibrillator and he was electronically charged on atleast two occasions. Muamba’s face was facing the turf when the medics arrived.

Coyle later remarked that Muamba’s condition is serious and “critically ill”.

Muamba, an England U-21 regular, has also previously played for Arsenal and Birmingham City. He was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but migrated to England at the age of 11. Both sets of players were stricken and shocked when he collapsed on the pitch
