MLS outfit Chicago Fire are said to be interested in securing the services of veteran Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand. Ferdinand, soon to turn 33, will be out of contract at the end of next season and Fire are said to be more than willing to match the £120,000 a week he earns at Manchester United.
Ferdinand has been a club and country regular over the last decade but injuries have taken their toll in recent months, with both Alex Ferguson and Fabio Capello preferring youngsters to him in recent fixtures against Norwich City and Montenegro respectively.
Ferdinand is said to be aware of the interest, but a lot is expected to depend on how this season pans out for the centre half, who is hoping to win a England spot for next season’s European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.
He is never worth that kind of money! Any striker with any speed can run around him at any time.
Hope he doesnt go to the Euro’s next year.
