Paolo di Canio was never short of controversy in his stint as player. Now as Swindon manager, Di Canio and Leon Clarke got into an angry bust up post the club’s 3-1 defeat to Southampton in the Carling Cup on August 30, 2011. Clarke was Di Canio’s own player ( he plies his trade for Swindon) and the pair had to be separated in the tunnel by club staff and stewards in order to prevent the altercation from getting more ugly- see video below.
Apparently the Di Canio Clarke fight was sparked off by a row of words between Clarke and Swindon’s fitness coach. Di Canio wanted these things to be discussed behind closed doors but things escalated very quickly into a fight.
Swindon chairman Jeremy Wray promised a full investigation but said that Di Canio had felt let down by Clarke.
