England vs Holland has become the latest victim of the London riots, with the FA deciding to cancel the international friendly match to be played between the two sides at Wembley on Wednesday, 10th August, 2011. The FA made the announcement of the cancellation in a short statement saying, “It is with regret that tomorrow’s international fixture with Holland at Wembley has been called off.”
The news of the cancellation of the England vs Holland friendly was met with disappointment by both English and Dutch players. The Dutch have remained in Holland, with the announcement of the cancellation coming before their departure to London.
Dutch football association spokeswoman Monique Kessel said, ” We will remain in the Netherlands,” and added “It’s a shame.”
Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, who impressed in the Red Devils’ recent Community Shield win and won a call up to the national squad, also expressed his disappointment at missing out on a possible England debut.
