Qatar Foundation becomes new Barcelona shirt sponsor in a record deal

Barcelona have agreed to display advertising on their shirts for the first time in their 111 year old history after signing a record €150m, five year sponsorship deal with Qatar Foundation.

Qatar Foundation, a non profit organisation in the Middle East that works primarily in the educational sector, will share advertising space on Barcelona shirts from 2011/12 onwards till 2016 with children’s charity UNICEF. Qatar, as you should know, recently won the hosting rights for the 2022 World Cup. Barcelona are currently not paid for displaying the UNICEF logo on their famous red and blue strip.

The deal will help eliminate some of Barcelona’s debt, which was around £369.5m after the end of the 2009/10 season.

Here is the design new Barcelona jersey with the Qatar Foundation logo.

In Champions League games, only the Qatar Foundation logo will be present as UEFA does not permit more than one shirt sponsor.
