Newcastle United have confirmed that they will meet Eredivisie side FC Utrecht in a preseason friendly on July 26.
The Magpies will start their preseason campaign against Irish side Shamrock Rovers on July 11. Darlington (July 18) and Huddersfield Town (July 21) away are their next two fixtures, following which they will make the trip to Holland to face Utrecht. Three days later on July 29, they will host Leeds United, and will finish their preseason engagements with a trip to Tannadice to play SPL side Dundee United.
The game between Newcastle and FC Utrecht will be held at Stadion Galgenwaard.
On the same day as the Newcastle-Utrecht game, there will be a game between England and Germany to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. This game will be played at 6.15 local time, while the Utrecht-Newcastle game is at 2.30 Dutch time. Many players of the 1990 World Cup squad, which Sir Bobby managed, will be playing in this friendly-Gazza, Peter Shilton, Paul Parker, Steve Hodge, Peter Beardsley and Des Walker. England lost to eventual champions West Germany in the semifinals of the tournament.
If you are a Newcastle fan, and are planning to fly out to Utrecht, or planning to fly in to watch the game between England and Germany, then you might want to do some research to ensure you get good Newcastle Airport parking.
The announcement of the German team to face Sir Bobby’s side will be made next week.
Tickets for the game cost £10 for adults and £5 for children.
Legendary striker Les Ferdinand, who scored 50 goals in 84 appearances for Newcastle in his two year stint at St.James Park, has also agreed to participate in the game.
