Wolves and Birmingham promoted to Premier League 2009-10

Edit- Burnley FC have joined Wolves and Birmingham in the 2009-10 Premiership after beating Sheffield United in the Championship playoff final.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City have grabbed the two automatic Premier League promotion spots by finishing first and second respectively in the Coca Cola Football League Championship 2008-09 season.

Wolves won the league with 90 points from 46 games. Birmingham, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, made an immediate return to the top tier by getting 83 points from 46 games.

Alex McLeish’s Blues beat Reading, who were also relegated with them last season, on Sunday, and pushed the Royals into the playoffs.

Preston North End grabbed a dramatic playoff spot after they won and Cardiff City lost their Championship game. Both Preston and Cardiff finished on the same number of points, but the former had scored only goal more than the Bluebirds, which saw them take the final playoff spot.

Norwich City were relegated along with Charlton and Southampton.

Preston will take on Sheffield United, while Reading will do battle with Burnley in the playoffs.
