Chelsea v Liverpool 4-4 goals highlights

All goals and video highlights from the Chelsea v Liverpool second leg UEFA Champions League quarterfinal played on April 12, 2009. ( Kickoff at Stamford Bridge 19.45 UK time).

Full time score and final result :- Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool ( Didier Drogba 51′, Alex 57′, Frank Lampard 76′, 89’/ Fabio Aurelio 19′, Xabi Alonso pen 28′, Lucas Leiva 81′, Dirk Kuyt 83′)

Chelsea win 7-5 on aggregate, and will meet Barcelona in the semifinals.

Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool ( Fabio Aurelio 19′- free kick goal)

Great innovation from Aurelio. Catches Chelsea and Petr Cech unawares by not opting to float the ball into the box as one would have normally expected. Sends a low shot into the near post.

Chelsea 0-2 Liverpool ( Xabi Alonso penalty 28′ goal)

Aurelio’s free kick again causes problems for Chelsea. Branislav Ivanovic, hero of the first leg, wraps his arms around Xabi Alonso as the free kick is about to be taken, and the referee points to the spot. Alonso sends Cech the wrong way, and it is 2-0 to Liverpool.

Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool ( Didier Drogba 51′ goal)

A very important goal for Chelsea, and an error you wouldn’t want on an important European night from Pepe Reina.

Chelsea 2-2 Liverpool ( Alex 57′ freekick goal)

A thunderbolt from Alex sees Chelsea equalise, and Liverpool have to score at least two more goals in order to progress. This goal rules out any chances of extra time in the game.

Chelsea 3-2 Liverpool ( Frank Lampard 76′ goal)

Lampard scores to give Chelsea the lead for the first time in the game.

Chelsea 3-3 Liverpool ( Lucas Leiva 81′ goal)

You think Benitez has thrown in the towel because he brings Fernando Torres off. However Lucas has a crack from outside the box, and the ball takes a wicked deflection off Michael Essien into the net. 3-3 to Liverpool.

Chelsea 3-4 Liverpool ( Dirk Kuyt 83′ goal)

Albert Riera makes his first significant contribution of the game- a cross which Dirk Kuyt heads in. Another incredible twist in a fantastic night of European football.

Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool ( Frank Lampard 89′ goal)

A fifth from Liverpool would have seen them progress at the expense of Chelsea, but Blues skipper Lampard ensures that there are no more hiccups with this great finish.

Pre match interesting trivia:-

Liverpool need to score three goals against Chelsea to keep their hopes alive. A 3-0 will see them progress directly, while a 3-1 means the match goes to extra time. Anything less than three goals means Liverpool are eliminated. BBC pundit Alan Hansen, like many of us, feels the task before Liverpool is monumental.

The last time Chelsea conceded three at home, without scoring, was against Manchester United in 2002. Paul Scholes, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored for United in that game. Frank Lampard and John Terry are the sole survivors for Chelsea from that clash. Terry is suspended for this quarter final clash.

  1. being the football god that i am, i think the goal keeping in the chelsea liverpool semi final was atrocious. i play for fulham and i think that my nans dog could do better keeping than that. in conclusion i think that getting angry and talking like a northerner even though i am from kent is very understandable and sad, when all i am trying to do is make freinds and be part of a group 🙂
    you sincerely DENNI HILL SON!

  2. Two of those eight goals could probably be put down to goalkeeping errors.

The first, when Cech failed to anticipate Aurelio’s free kick, and the third, when Reina made a hash of Drogba’s flick.

Other than those two, I can’t see any goal which could be put down to poor goalkeeping.
