The New England Home Shirt was unveiled in the international friendly against Slovakia on March 28, 2009 ( Saturday, which England won 4-0). Designed by Umbro, it has been described as the “most sophisticated football kit ever.” This will be the home shirt of the England National Football Team for the next two years. It is pure white ( see photo below). It has the Three Lions logo on the left, and a small Umbro logo on the right breast. I for one, do not think it looks like the most sophisticated football kit ever, but then, I’m not a designer at Umbro. Looks more like the £2 polo shirt you get for kids from ASDA.
Designer Aitor Throup and Savile Row tailor Charlie Allen were involved in the making of the shirt. Individual measurements have been taken for every player in the squad. This shirt will be in use for both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.

The shirt was made keeping in mind England’s look in the 1966 World Cup against Argentina. To see how Hurst, Charlton, Moore and co. looked then, check out this Youtube Video. ( This video mainly shows the Argentine players, but you can see a glimpse or two of the England shirt as it existed then)
Do the FA want the glory days of 1966 back? Is the shirt expected to do what generations of England players have failed to do? It has certainly started on a winning note against Slovakia-we’ll see how far England go with this shirt.
Why was white chosen? It was “a statement of confidence and unity — an intimidating sight for opponents“, according to officials.
The England home shirt is not exactly cheap, given that the current price is a 25% increase over the price of the last home shirt.
