Manchester United beat defending champions Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 on penalties in the finals of the Carling Cup at Wembley to go one step closer to their dream of achieving an unprecedented quadruple. Both Jamie O’Hara and David Bentley missed their penalties, but Giggs, Tevez, Ronaldo and Anderson were all on target as United won 4-1 in the shootout.
Ben Foster made two great saves to deny Darren Bent and Aaron Lennon, while United thought they should have had a penalty when Cristiano Ronaldo was brought down just before the end of normal time.
Foster saved O’Hara’s spot kick, while Bentley smashed his wide.
