Final score:- ( Competition: German Bundesliga)
Bayern Munich 1-2 FC Köln ( Miroslav Klose 84’/ Fabrice Ehret 22′, Daniel Brosinski 33′)
Defending champions Bayern Munich missed out on a chance to go on top of the Bundesliga when they were beaten 2-1 by FC Köln at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. With Hoffenheim having drawn against Stuttgart and Hertha having lost to Wolfsburg, Bayern could have claimed top spot ahead of their midweek Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon, but instead fell to a 2-1 defeat.
It was Bayern’s third defeat in their last four games, and a just win for Christophe Daum in his 150th game as Köln boss.
It was Bayern who found the back of the net first. Miroslav Klose headed home from Massimo Oddo’s cross in the 13th minute only to find that referee Babak Rafati had disallowed his effort for offside. Replays showed that Rafati had made an incorrect decision.
Köln took the lead in the 22nd minute on the counter. Midfielder Fabrice Ehret lofted the ball over the advancing Rensing after Milivoje Novakovic and Nemanja Vucicevic had combined to set him up.
Amazingly it was Köln who doubled their lead. Teenager Daniel Brosinski scored in the 33rd minute after exchanging passes with Vucicevic.
Klinsmann rang in the changes at half time, bringing on Landon Donovan and Hamit Altintop for Podolski and Schweinsteiger.
Altintop had a shot go wide, and Ze Roberto and Klose both forced saves from Farid Mondragon as Bayern searched for a way back into the game. They did get one back when Belgian defender Van Buyten headed home from Altintop’s cross in the 84th minute, but Köln held on to preserve their one goal advantage.
Hamburg meet Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. Should Martin Jol’s side win, they will go four points ahead of Bayern. Should Leverkusen win, Bayern will slip to fifth place, but the top five of the Bundesliga will only have two points separating them.
