Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that the battle for the 2008-09 Premiership is now a two horse race, with only United and Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool in with a chance of lifting the title.
Ferguson believes that Aston Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal, who are currently third, fourth and fifth respectively, have no chances of lifting the crown.
United currently lead the table with 59 points from 25 games, with Liverpool five points behind. Villa are third with 51, while Chelsea and Arsenal are at 49 and 44 respectively.
Ferguson believes that Chelsea’s sacking of Brazilian coach Luis Felipe Scolari played into United’s hands. New coach Guus Hiddink has refused to rule out Chelsea’s chances of lifting the crown, but even the wily Dutchman would have realised the magnitude of the task infront of him.
Chelsea have lost twice to Liverpool this season, drew once and lost once to United, and failed to overcome Arsenal.
Chelsea take on Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa this weekend.
