Final scores and results from the German Bundesliga games played on Saturday, February 7, 2009.

Karlsruhe 3-2 Hamburger SV ( Sebastien Freis*2, Giovanni Federico/ Jose Guerrero, Collin Benjamin)

A late goal from Sebastien Freis gave Karlsruhe a surprise 3-2 win over Martin Jol’s Hamburger SV. Hamburg, who beat Bayern Munich last week, took a two goal lead and then shocking squandered it as Karlsruhe ended up surprise winners at the Wild Park Stadium. Giovanni Federico also scored his first Karlsruhe goal since his winter switch from Borussia Dortmund

Schalke 1-0 Werder Bremen ( Benedikt Hoewedes)

Schalke beat Werder Bremen thanks to a second half goal from defender Benedikt Hoewedes. Jermaine Jones however collected his fifth yellow card, and will miss next week’s game against Bochum due to suspension.

Wolfsburg 2-0 Bochum ( Edin Dzeko*2)

Edin Dzeko grabbed a brace as Wolfsburg secured their first win in the new year against Bochum at the Volkswagen Arena.

Borussia Moenchengladbach 1– TSG Hoffenheim ( Alexander Baumjohann/ Wellington)

Leaders TSG Hoffenheim nearly fell to a shock defeat against bottom place Gladbach, but were saved the blushes by Brazilian striker Wellington.

Bayer Leverkusen 2-4 Vfb Stuttgart ( Stefan Kiessling, Angelos Charisteas/ Mario Gomez*2, Lukas Sinkiewicz OG, Thomas Hitzlsperger)

Stuttgart won a high voltage six goal encounter against Bayer Leverkusen thanks to a wonderful individual performance from Mario Gomez. Greek striker Angelos Charisteas also scored on his debut for Leverkusen. Bayer’s hopes of landing something from the game were hugely reduced when Arturo Vidal was sent off early in the second half.

Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 Cologne ( Marko Russ, Martin Fenin/Milivoje Novakovic*2)

Eintracht Frankfurt drew with Cologne at the Commerzbank Arena. Milivoje Novakovic scored twice for Cologne, including a penalty that proved to be the equaliser after Christian Henning was sent off for hauling Radu down.
