UAE Premier League club Al Khaleej Khor Fakkan have signed Al Ahly’s Tunisian midfielder Anis Boujelbene. According to news reports, Khaleej paid $100,000 to trigger a release clause in Boujelbene’s contract.
The 30 year old Boujelbene, who will celebrate his 31st birthday on February 6, was on the lookout for a new club after not being selected for Al Ahly’s World Club Championship team. He was earlier linked with a move to former club CS Sfaxien, Ahly’s local rivals Zamalek, and Saudi Arabian club Hazm.
Boujelbene had joined Al Ahly from CS Sfaxien in January 2007. He had spent nearly a decade with Sfaxien before joining Ahly, captaining them to six titles.
Boujelbene’s exit opens up an extra foreign player’s spot at Ahly. Ahly currently have two foreign players- Flavio Amado and Gilberto ( both Angolan players)
