Lyon’s unsettled Brazilian striker Fred may be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur, with Mexican forward Giovani Dos Santos expected to move the other way to Stade Gerland.
Fred, who joined Lyon in 2005 from Cruizeiro, was initially a hit at the club, but his relationship with the club and its fans have slowly deteriorated over the last eighteen months. OL fans have openly booed the 25 year old, and club president Jean Michel Aulas has questioned his attitude and commitment.
Spurs had reportedly bid £11m for Fred in January 2008, but the move did not materialise. Fred has been linked with a move back to Brazil, with Palmeiras and Fluminense both wanting to sign him. But with Atletico Madrid, Stoke City and other European clubs still interested, the Brazilian might not want to cross the Atlantic yet.
Fred’s contract expires in June 2009. Reports state that Lyon might accept something in the range of five million euros, as the remainder of the player’s contract is worth that amount.
Mexican Dos Santos has struggled to fit in at White Hart Lane after moving from Barcelona in the summer. His ankle injuries have not helped his cause either, and he has made just 6 appearances for Spurs after his £4.7m move from Spain.
