Hearts 2-1 Rangers

Hearts handed Rangers their second away defeat of the season when they beat Walter Smith’s Rangers 2-1 at Tynecastle. All the three goals came in a six minute period in the first half ( 20′-26′). Marius Zaliukas and Laryea Kingston were on target for Hearts, with Christos Karipidis heading into his own net from a Charlie Adam set piece.

The result reduces the gap between 2nd placed Rangers and 3rd placed Hearts to seven points. It is also Hearts’ fifth successive win in the SPL. Celtic however have the chance to go seven clear at the top when they visit Inverness later this afternoon.

Rangers struggled to deal with Bruno Aguiar’s set pieces, with the Portuguese midfielder having a role in both of Hearts’ goals.

Marius Zaliukas fired home from close range in the 20th minute after Rangers keeper McGregor had done well to keep Christophe Berra’s header from going in. However the ball fell to Zaliukas, who made no mistake and gave Hearts the lead.

Kingston doubled the lead three minutes later, heading home the rebound after Berra and Aguiar had again combined to give McGregor problems.

Lee Wallace was given the marching orders by the referee with fourteen minutes to go, but Hearts held on for a crucial win.

It was a well fought game, but Hearts deserved their win.

And while searching for more recreation and sports resources online on Hearts, I discovered that the club had failed to pay its players their weekly wages for the second time in two months.

Hearts officials have said that the salaries will reach the players’ bank accounts by Monday.

Hearts will visit Motherwell next Saturday, while Rangers host Hamilton Academical.
